Interestingly sited TP with very little to view south? The town is also obscured by trees and a hill. Arrived here from the little road to SW and despite a very wet and muddy day, it was good to tick off the 6th of the “Hawick 7.”

Parked to SSW blocking a gate, not something I like to do but needs must in this instance as narrow road with no verge parking opportunities - 500m to trig over good ground. Pillar sits on a sizeable concrete plinth and has a reasonable coat of white paint. There has been some previous damage to the top which has been repaired. Original centre cap retained, deeply indented lettering; RHD side sight hole open, other 3 holes plugged. Extensive views N & W over Hawick.

Levelled for height to Class 2 precision in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in October 1986. Spider retained OS centre cap. Pretty sure the malicious damage to the top of the pillar had not occurred at the time of this visit.
