Got the keys to the monument from the Lothian Estate Office. £5. If you get them just before 5 you can spend as much time there as you like then drop the keys through the letterbox. A very cool place to wake up early!

We were advised that the key to the monument can be obtained from the Lothian Estates Office in Bonjedward for a small fee. I wish we had done this as views would be superb.

Parked in track entrance NW of pillar and walked up the exceptionally muddy track to the Waterloo Monument and trig. Restoration work currently underway on the monument - the pillar is inside the roped off area but it's an easy step over to gain access.

First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed 15th May 1953, cost not on record. Flush bracket S7471 was levelled for height in 1955. This marker was computed for triangulation as secondary station NT72/25 in the Jedburgh block in 1957 and was last maintained by the OS in September 1986. The distinctive Waterloo Monument shares this top making the location easily identifiable from afar. Monument closed and falling apart at time - since restored.
