Log #486. Space for one car at south entrance to the derelict school, then walked back along the road past the entrance to Netherwood farm. Over a rusted gate and bee-lined SW towards the pillar. More cracking views, pillar is in good nick. [ExP-327/MiP-38/Rev-6/BM-39/IS-50/Other-26]

Straight forward walk in from Murdermabrush with only the last 100 or so feet being steep. Cracking views though in all directions :-)

Great panoramic views around Kilmacolm and beyond. I parked near the old school gates then nipped in over the fields, which was easy under foot.

Second visit. To obtain GPS measurement and for photography. Parking limited but room to park in south entrance to the derelict Balrossie School. Approaching from east, best route up is via grazing fields north of Slates, two gates to pass through. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces SE, ~142°. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. 360° panorama with some long views. Local view overlooking Kilmacolm.

VG condition pillar. Cap missing, no plug. FB faces SE-ish. All sightholes open, but not clear through. Good intervisibility views to other nearby pillars including Ranfurly, Barscube Hill, Corlick Hill and Auchinleck. Pillar looks like it's leaning to the west by about 9 degrees. Steepish ascent from road (I parked near Slates) but easy enough.

First visit to record FB number. The pillar was completed on 29th November 1945, cost not recorded. In 1947 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NS77/T79 in the Glasgow secondary block. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1952. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in August 1978. Spider no longer retains an OS plug.
