Up the track towards the mast, then a quick shimmy through the wood to the pillar. Found a lost and lonely sheep in the wood, so reported it to Corrieknowes Farm. who said they would contact the owner.

Quick visit from bottom of track, turn onto path next to mast - no need to enter farmers field as pillar on wood side of fence. Decent nick, very mossy! Asphalt plug, bit of concrete missing on top.

Parking as Beckroad. Took the track through the wood from the mast to the trig. The torrential showers have now turned to sleet and snow.

Roadside parking on B723 at Woodside ny182676. Headed north to track entrance. View of Chappel Cross power station to the NE. Another gate near to mast allows access to field and edge of plantation. Pillar located behind wire fence within the wood. Flush bracket faces south to Solway Firth. Pillar is well protected although the spider plug has been infilled. Splash of white paint still evident at base near the flush bracket.

Good track to mast from road from South-West. Took a man path from mast to trig, found a good path on the way back which more or less followed the fence line from trig to mast. Much easier return journey.

Edge of woodland. Parked roadside verge at access road to Corrieknowes Farm. Good farm track to mast, then nice little woodland track. Pillar looks a bit unloved, a lot of the top screed has gone; an asphalt plug replaces the centre cap; LHD side sight hole open, front plug deteriorating. Some limited farm views to S.

Long walk up (fairly busy) main road from Annan, then farm track uphill to trig

Parked at end of track quick bag easily found trig has slight damage to top just got back to car and a kingsized tractor and silage spreader was about to turn in, was dead lucky would of been in trouble as i was blocking the track, as it was he watched me out as i reversed on to the main road!

Parked in a small parking bay just past the pylon lines to the south of the track. Walked back up the road and the mostly dry track, from which the pillar is easily spotted. Slight damage to top as previously reported; asphalt cap, and one sight-hole open.

Slightly damaged pillar at edge of a small wood. Pillar substantively good with spalling to the top screed. Good day for having 4x4 on the car as the farm road up to it was a waterfall of liquid mud.....FB faces south-ish with no obvious open sightholes. Cap missing but asphalt plug present. Probably good views but not in today's torrential rain.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 18th September 1951 costing £14.9s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NY45/T65 during 1953. Levelled for height to Class 1 precision, tertiary standards in 1974. Last maintained by the OS in August 1966. SITE VISIT: Nearest hard verge ½ mile south of track to trig. Mad doberman loose in field opposite. Still to remove mud from car roof thrown up from front wheel spinning while escaping first verge attempt. Pillar with frost damage to top layer. Tar plug in spider. Flush bracket faces south, compass measurement 172°. Vented through west sight hole. Never tested the electric fence - assumed live.

On the edge of woodland, watchout for the electric fence. The wood usefully hides Chapelcross "Power Station". Plenty of gorse in bloom.
