Roadside verge parking at road junc to SW (NT 6897 3912). Took track to Lairds Hill first to investigate the fort, and potential sub-tump status of the hill, then across to here. Pillar has lost its centre cap, an asphalt plug seals the tube; LHD & RHD side sight holes open, front plug beginning to degrade. Extensive panoramic views.

Parked on the verge about 200m S of crossroads by Sweeethope farm. Then up field boundaries through gates. Skirted the south side of the crag, then up steep rocky grass. No cattle today. Interesting complex hillfort/settlement with multiple defences: will look it up on Canmore.

Bike circuit out of Stitchill. Up the hill from the Sweethope direction, leaving bike at the top of a grassy field and a short walk up through the Kelso traps scenery to the top. Amused a gang of dizzy Holstein heifers on the way up, other cattle stayed well away.

This was such an enjoyable visit. A little difficult finding somewhere to park (managed a grass verge near a field entry NT692384) before walking along a hedgeline alongside a large field, to cross a trackway (met four horse riders here), then across a large pasture making a bee-line for the craggy hill that is Sweethope. A slight anti-clockwise move to avoid a deep looking 'ravine', then a steep climb to the summit. Just as I reached the top,I noticed a huge pair of horns moving in a rotating circular motion. I moved nearer to fully view the owner of said horns: a very large Highland Cow, accompanied by seven or eight companions. They were all very interested in me, and cantered towards me. I responded by clapping my hands and shouting, which caused them to hesitate briefly, before the charge was renewed. This was quite daunting; several tons of prime Highland Cattle heading my way. As luck (or fate) would have it, further shouting and waving halted them, before they decided to head off away from the trig. Phew! I cautiously approached the pillar to find that it has an asphalt top, and two sight-holes open. I would have liked to further explore this prehistoric fort, but was a little concerned that my bovine friends might return. Another day perhaps. But despite the drama of possibly being 'trampled underfoot' I thoroughly enjoyed this little adventure. Wonderful Sweethope Hill!

Easy access from the track to the south west. The paths around the base of the crags are a toss up as to which is worse. The route to the west is waterlogged & badly poached by cattle, those to the east are covered in ankle twisting rocks hidden in the grass. Worth it though - decent views across the Borders countryside with numerous hills in view. 5 highland cattle roaming the top close to the pillar although they were placid enough

Parked safely on grass verge on minor road round the corner from the farm, across from the track. Headed along the track, up the field margins and through the gate to reach Sweethope Hill, thus avoiding the cattle. An interesting wee hill, with the fort and stunning panoramic views across the Borders, even on a dull day. Unfortunately the weather closed in after we reached the summit so we didn't linger long, and got totally drookit on the way back to the car! Another fantastic location that trigpointing has taken us to, and we'll most definitely return in more favourable weather conditions :)

Happy Trigger! ;)
