Checked on here beforehand but missed some of the details. Tricky getting to near by roads as it is in the middle of town with lots of one way roads and traffic lights. Stopped near a church and discovered I was quite nearby to Tor Hill Road. Found a parking spot and walked south along the road thinking pillar might be visible and possibly accessible from there. Not likely unless you were a mountaineer. Saw the rock to west of road behind Zion church converted into residential units. Walked around to lane heading west then north and uphill. Luckily there were a group of people just going up the steps to the house at the end. Asked if they have a pillar in their garden, yes, would it be ok to look at it, yes. Good result. Warned about trip hazards, mainly lots of clutter lying about. Shown to pillar, under a tree on top of rock. Warned about sheer drop to east. Views now lost although fabulous views from the garden. Spider and cap in place. In the garden is the remains of an ancient chapel, something to do with a monastery around here at one time.

As with past visits the owners were out. I spoke with a neighbour and while I did NOT say I was with OS she seemed to think so and said the owners would not mind a quick visit. The pillar is accessed via the upper garden tier in an untidy row of trees.

Trig is on the edge of an old quarry in the grounds of 7 Lauriston Close. No-one was in when I called so wandered up the steps to the garden and picked my way across a load of conifer tree cuttings, old fences and other obstacles. Pillar has retained its original top cap, with lightly indented lettering; RHD side sight hole not determined, the other 3 were sealed. Partial views S. Not a loved trig as Daison Rock is.

Eventually found Launceston Close and sought permission from the owner of no 7. House appears to be undergoing repairs given wreckage in garden. Pillar is adjacent to a small chapel built by a previous owner. Owner very obliging. Given the ornamental curtain walling on the front of the close this appears to have been the sight of a hotel previously.

This one is frustrating! Clearly visible from outside B&Q superstore - and almost reachable by scrambling along legdes and through the undergrowth. It seems that there was a path (starting in Lauriston Close) that used to lead up to the pillar but has since been overgrown. Perhaps the only way to the trig now is with climbing gear and helicopter.

There it is, between my fingers

Me and Nick did have a good go at reaching this via the path me mentions. It required some tricky balancing on dangerously high walls and crawling through undergrowth and we still weren't that close. Rock climbing gear and a helecopter needed. Or, failing that, it looks like it would be accessible from the garden of the house at the end of the road...

As close as we could get to the bugger

The pillar looks to be located in the garden of one of the houses in the (private ?) close, further down the hill. Access by permission only here too then. The area appears clearer than for the previous visitor, so the pillar is more easily visable.

The pillar is mid shot.

Imagine a chunk of limestone the size of a 4-storey block of flats, dumped in the middle of the backstreets of Torquay, high on a hill. Then imagine the trigpoint pillar on top of it, and you have pretty much the situation for this trigpoint. To reach it you would need rock-climbing equipment or a helicopter. There is no access to the top of the rock from any of the surrounding streets.

I am not certain of the date, but I did visit this one about 10 years ago. From a house at the end of a cul-de-sac there was a path marked "Lion Rock" which led through their little garden and up onto the rocks. It was hazardous but by no means impossible. Of course circumstances may have changed in 10 years but I might have a photo of someone stood on the thing and I will see if I can find it.
