My second visit, different route - W from Stottencleugh and a clockwise circuit up Yearn Hope then Sisters Cleugh and on to the pillar, back down Easter Wide Hope. Ascent of Sisters Cleugh mercifully not as punishing as the map suggested it might be! A far superior route than the Wind Farm tracks from the W, and the only route for the self-respecting hill-walker in my humble opinion...

Up from near Oldhamstocks, not much activity on the construction front but there were some folk about. Cold, thin layer of snow. Very different from my last visit. It was pretty easy getting here before the wind farm.

Parked at NT 69176 68195 NE from here up to the wind farm. I stayed off the wind farm roads as there was a lot of traffic. It looks like many more turbines will be up here shortly.

You can stop putting up wind turbines thank you, we’ve got enough now...On top of the Pillar was a birds egg and a lambs leg. By the Pillar was a dead crow. I suspect some kind of satanic ritual has been taking place here, maybe a curse has been placed on the wind farm company...That said, Wester Dod would probably be a real balls-ache to get to if it wasn't for the wind farm tracks!

From cattle grid at NT686689. Unluckily for me, the wind turbine which would have provided best access to the pillar was being worked on, blades about to be lifted into position, so in an "Exclusion zone". I was able to sneak in round the back without being seen.

Parked down the road from Aikengall and followed the track along the Wide Hope. The pillar is now well within the wind farm which is a shame as the 360 degree views are impressive. Views to the Eildon Hills - Pentlands - Lomond Hills - Fife Ness - Telegraph Hill - Cheviots.
