A lovely wander up to the TP on a sunny Good Friday morning. No sign of the “black bull” thankfully. 3 out of the “Hawick 7” done.

Third and sadly last pillar of the day, would have stayed in the Borders longer on a fine afternoon except for some very poor planning. At least we kept the best pillar till last. Superb views and would be easily accessed if not for the huge black bull in the first field you enter through the gate at the 90deg bend in the road. Huge and pretty intimidating, he was accompanied by a frisky harem. Found an alternative route - accessed the field to the S by a gate near the 189 height mark and walked W towards the pylon and the ancient homestead. In the top W corner of this field is a gate into the Trig field. Worth the minor detour to enjoy the terrific panoramic views from the pillar.

Plenty of parking at the village hall at the bottom of Whitehaugh Road. Pleasant walk up the road before going through the gate at the 90 degree bend. Followed the trough between the hills which leads to a wooden gate, thus avoiding any walls. A short pull landed us on top. Great views all round. Even nabbed a few BMs on the dry stane dykes. With CJ.

Safe parking in a large pull in near the 221 spotheight north of Whitehaugh. Anywhere else is sketchy and risks getting sideswiped by farm vehicles. Accessed via the track to the east. Go through the first gate you come to and follow the wall up to the top corner. There is a gate in this corner which allows access to the grazing top From here is a short walk to the pillar. Fabulous views in all directions from here with numerous tops visible all around.:)

One of my favourite runs from the house so my most visited trig. On this occasion walked up after parking at back of Wilton Lodge Park NT491142 and headed along minor road up past Wiltonburn farm. At the end of the track went over the burn and climbed directly up the hillside to the trig with great views of the town and surrounding area. Descended west to the minor road going back into town and along to the car.

Our first official visit to a trig when we meant to do so - and not just found by accident. On a walk near Wiltonburn and a friend asked if we were visiting the trig - Hadn't even known it was there - It certainly triggered off a series of events!

Several other walkers out and about. Parked at road corner west of Whitehaugh cottages then up track: best to go through gate and up hill on NW side of wall. Found out the hard way that there's a tricky cross-wall and electric fence to climb if you go up the SE side . Last of 7 pillars today, but enough daylight left to do the nearby FBM/rivet/berntsen trio before January darkeness falls.

Parked in the lay-by down the minor road a bit from Whitehaugh and headed up the track. Was trying to work out which side of the dyke to go up, when the hubby rather unhelpfully decided to doubt my map reading skills and announce we were heading in the wrong direction!! After an unnecessary climb of the hill opposite, I took great pleasure in telling him he was wrong and we turned tail back up to the trig, by which time the rain had come on, grrr. Fab views from the trig even though it was rather mizzly. Shame the trig isn't looking so white nowadays though...and och we forgot to look for the wee cross :o

Moi posing at the trig :)
Decent views despite the drizzle!

This marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NT72/T113 in the Jedburgh secondary block in 1957 and was last maintained by the OS in July 1977.
