While visiting Louven Howe. Sides have now fallen off but are still close to the trig. At least i visited this one in the day light, not like its sister, Aux 2, at 5 in the morning.

Unusual shape. Looks like a chimney pot filled with concrete and then a lot of the pot has broken away.

Got within 10m without crossing fence. large curved slabs of concrete cladding have fallen off this pillar, but it's still standing proud.

Walked up from Eller Beck Bridge as part of a 9-mile evening round. Easy walking on the bridleway up past Fylingdales' boundary (replete with warning signs) and up on to a good stone track. Visited Lilla Cross and then on to Louven Howe and Louven Howe Aux 1. The pillar is as Aux 2 over the moor - it's a drainpipe filled with concrete with a spider on top. The outer casing has fallen away significantly and the internal concrete is now damaged. An interesting curio with excellent views and worth consideration if visiting Louven Howe pillar - it's literally about 50ft away.

Day 13 of 13: A Bay to Bay Walk. Less than a year after bagging the proper trig (and not knowing about this one!) I was back to bag the "pipe". I hadn't planned for my 200th pillar to be the final new bag of this amazing walk but fate conspired to make it so. What's left is near to the proper trig, easy to spot and pretty badly damaged. So one fifth of the way to the 1000 club which is my life ambition. And another pioneering walk completed later on arrival at Ravenscar and Robin Hood's Bay. Two weeks walking without needing waterproofs, 6 new trigs and a head full of memories.

80m due E of the Hotine. Seems it was constructed by up ending a large precast concrete drainage pipe and filling it with concrete then setting a spider into the top. It's all falling apart now with the pipe fractured and pieces falling away. It's purpose, along with the Aux 2 (3.25km W)? Unknown, but speculate it's related to the Snod Hill BMEWS site, but if so perhaps there should be something to the S, unless the Horcum pillar worked.

I pulled off of the A169 onto a gravel road just south of the bridge over the Eller Beck, walked down to the bridge and took the gravel road east(ish). I followed the Fylingdales boundary fence to a few yards past the waterfall then crossed the Eller Beck. I headed out straight across the moor… probably not the best decision I’ve ever made. It was tough going with heather, bogs and a lot of running water. It took me just over an hour to reach the pillar. The pillar has been badly damaged, probably by water ingress and subsequent frost. There is no flush bracket but the spider is still in place and has its plug. The way the top is breaking up, I suspect the spider will go missing in the not-too-distant future. The Louven Howe OS pillar is a few yards away.

Parked near Louven Howe Aux 2 and ran down road then along bridleway to it. Quite wet underfoot. Also possible to park just south of Eller Beck bridge to the west of the road.

My first log using the andriod app. A difficult bog trot up from Eller Beck after heavy rain last night…. Well it seems to have worked and given a good gps location. The walk up looking for the path beside Little Eller Beck was very boggy and I had to stay on the Fylingdales boundary fence until I could cross Eller Beck on a concrete bridge at SE8697 98071. It would have been much easier to have taken the permissive path though the Fylingdales site and then onto the hard track on Lilla Rig. The pillar shows recent damage as mentioned by pete3738 – see photo. I logged Louven Howe pillar in July 2010 but made this return visit to log Aux 1 that has only recently been added to the site.

10 mile walk over seriously boggy ground to get to the two trigs on Louven Howe. Very quiet up here. The other trig came as a surprise.

Other side of wide track c.100m from proper trig is this strange auxilliary trig. No FB, brass cap but no OS inscription. Cracks abound.

Rode past it a few times without spotting it. MOD pillar probably associated with Fylingdales. Large crack with centre intact. No flush bracket.

Near S4392 but opposite (W) side of track, cylindrical with enlarged top, spider like OS but no script or FB. Retrospective log. No damage noted at the time, not to say there wasn't any.
