Good condition Berntsen. Easy spot in a small cut-in section of vegetation on the path up to the Freshwater FBM from the thatched church.

Berntsen found in clearing. Suspect the brambles will soon overrun the location before long. Left the green bottle to mark the berntsen location.

From fencepost with nail, it's 3.5m into brambles. Viewing from field it's offset 1m R from fencepost. Someone had already had a good trampling session and I found old green bottle almost immediately but somehow missed the Berntsen which was only a foot from it. Hence bigger hole in brambles than necessary! Revisited for the FBM and brought along the shears for a proper winter attempt on the Berntsen too. Great to have this pair outed after so long in hiding.

Could not find this one, we think it's just off the side of the footpath but it could just as easily be the other side of the hedge, had 15 minutes prodding the ground in the area, previous photo of it shows it's close to the surface so hopefully one day it will reveal itself once more.

Area is very overgrown - some serious hardware and dedication required here!

GPS indicates area between 2nd and 3rd fence post W from straining post, on or S of fence ie possibly under brambles. Half hour probing either side of fence found nothing more exciting than a clump of bramble choked daffs. Should have tried for this in 2008 when looked for FBM, likely fewer brambles then. Think there's a shallow ditch between fence and path, Bertnsen on N bank?

No OS sketch or photo available - maybe one in the archives, but possibly of little use now anyway. Spent about half an hour probing the ground alongside the path for much of the length of where the field entrance may once have been. Unfortunately no sign of where the opening was, and no sign of the trig. 8 years now since it's been seen, will it ever surface from the murky depths again? ***Re-visited 10 Jul 2023. The fence has completely gone at this point along the NW side of the path, and with the rampant brambles it's difficult to know how much of it has gone. Nevertheless the brambles have been extensively trodden down where the Aux is, and with the small green bottle marking the spot it was straight forward to locate. Cut and cleared vegetation from around it, and measured 3.8m to centre of the path.

This is a seriously overgrown area, would take several hours to prove conclusivly the true current status.
Freshwater FBM Aux 1 rough ground adjacent to track/path
Freshwater FBM Aux 1 GPS did indicate the Bernsten might be in the field under the brambles. A difficult search area.

A forlorn hope but still had to be visited if I wanted to go to all the listed locations on the Isle of Wight. Ground far too overgrown to spot anything.

Had 3 attempts at this over the duration of visit, found nothing despite relatively low vegetation. Think that the fence has been replaced as there is no opening into the field as described by Phil Richards, so all my counting of the fenceposts may have been a waste of time!! Not convinced that it is gone as see no reason why it would be removed.

Spent half an hour trying to locate this but in the end the vegetation beat me. Probably there somewhere...

Having failed to find High Down and Freshwater FBM I tried this one - no luck thrashing about in the brambles and nettles.

I searched and prodded for ages but to no avail. The place is so overgrown that it's difficult even trying to align the previous photos and I couldn't be sure how many fence posts have been engulfed by the brambles!

Area quite overgrown with long grass, so without an additional clue this one will be hard to find.
