From the layby, take the right hand path (i.e. don't go through the gate), and bear right when it forks. Pillar easily located in fieldside hedge a short distance from the tree trunks which have been laid across the field entrance. Significant damage to the top of the pillar has partially exposed the spider. Centre hole is growing a fine crop of nettles; the 2p coin was not sought!

We parked to the NNE of the trig, where the byway meets Southward Lane. Then walked along the byway in the SSW direction. As others have said, you cross over from the W side of the hedge to the E side of the hedge about 30m N of the trig (there is a dug-out ditch at the crossover point). The trig cannot be seen from the byway, even at this time of the year. The top of the trig is damaged, exposing 2 legs of the spider, centre cap missing, centre tube filled with dirt up to a few inches from the top. I imagine that this trig will be difficult to find in the summer months as it will probably be engulfed in the hedge. I dropped a 2p coin down the centre tube for the next visitor to find.

Tried to dodge the heavy showers to reach this one high above the flooded village of Aldbourne where water seemed to be bubbling up from the ground, as opposed to a river overflowing. Lots of sandbags and sodden carpets piled up in people's front gardens. Felt slightly uncomfortable being here in my rather frivolous role of trig-hunter. Badly damaged top of pillar. Then off to see Swindon Town 1-1 Crawley Town: an inglorious draw.

Located on the field side of the hedgerow (it can be seen from the by-way but need to go into the field to get to it), it was settling into a thorn bush nicely until I applied the secateurs to it (the thorn bush, not the pillar!). It now stands out a little better. The top of the trig is badly damaged, spider is in tact but the plug is missing. No views to speak of.
