Defaced bolt on top of NE end of gun emplacement. An hour's walk from lighthouse roadhead. Nice calm conditions after a stormy week - but bonxies aggressive! Back along E coast a way to admire Stoura Clett sea stack

A 2.3 mile walk across undulating wet moorland from where I'd left the car by the masts on Ward of Bressay. Saw several bonxies on the way but they weren't in the attacking mood today. Bolt is set in the eastern 'parapet' of the WWI gun emplacement on Bard Head. Be sure to sign the guest book nearby. The remains of the winch system used to transport supplies from sea level are also a few metres away. Great views all round - Noss, Ander Hill, Ward of Bressay and round to the mainland looking a bit hazy. I got caught in a short sharp shower on the return nearing the summit of the Ward of Bressay and had to shelter behind a peat wall for 10mins!
