Definitely a flag pole on the tower, whether its the original who knows.

For those not in the know. Smith Warehouse is the W H SMITH Distribution Centre.

Whilst the Smith's building is still standing, there is no flagstaff on the tower. There are 2 poles, the taller holds a hazard warning light and the shorter a weather vane. g4wsb's second photo below shows the hazard warning pole very clearly.
