My first visit to this spectacular building. Dedicated to St Mary & St Chad, Lichfield Cathedral is the only cathedral in England to be crowned by three spires, and the middle one (the intersected station) is the highest of the trio standing at 258 feet. The west front with its great screen of saints, reminded me of both Salisbury and Wells. Particularly enjoyed the chapter house, and up the stairs to see the chapel of St Chad's Head. Memorable visit.

The Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Chad, Lichfield. Fabulous Grade I listed cathedral. Built between 1195 and approximately 1340, it is the only medieval English cathedral with three spires. Extensively damaged during the civil war, it would take around 300 years to fully restore. All good with the 3 spires, including the trig spire. There is a cut benchmark (CBM) to the left of the door of the south transept, on the south east face. There is also another benchmark on the south face of the wall close to the south west tower, which is not in the OS database, has no horizontal line, and is probably a pivot benchmark

Quite high in the obvious intersection category, quick visit, probably more of an interest in the prayer cushions to be honest, shame the misericords are not at all on show.

Does this count as an "other"

Beautiful Cathedral with an abundance of Spires. The central one will be the Intersected Station one though.

I walked the first section of the Heart of England Way today from Milford to Lichfield so this was an easy bag at the end of my walk before catching the bus back.

Just about my favourite cathedral I've visited in the UK, and I've visited most of them, hard to believe its in Lichfield. In my opinion quite European-looking, also looked inside.
