Meeting old friends for lunch in Winchester - nipped into the cathedral (via my secret door) to once again view Anthony Gormley's Sound II, the magnificent Tournai font (Hampshire has four of the nation's seven), & Dear Sweet Jane's final resting place, amongst many other things. No flag flying today.

Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity, Grade I listed; late 11thC, general restoration 1909-12 - a magnificent building. Did not see the CENTRE or BOLT, but FLAGSTAFF was standing proud on the tower. Cathedral also boasts 3, possibly 4 OS benchmarks: the 2 mentioned in CJO's log below; a 1GL Bolt at N corner; and a possible cut mark on a paving stone near W entrance - a veritable OS-fest! ***Re-visited 31 Aug 2016 to take the tower tour. Bolt not found on roof, possibly it was re-leaded 1992, or possibly hiding under the duct-boards. Either way, not to be seen.

Latest of many visits, today specifically to see the Peter Eugene Ball alter to Izaak Walton in the Fisherman's Chapel. Beautiful, light building, to which normal access charges don't apply on a Sunday (by donation).
