Our running club runs 5km around Valley Park every Friday morning. Today our route deliberately took us past Rob's Pillar. Everyone loved it. Very novel, good fun.

What an interesting addition to this amazing site. A very well made Trig point, the jury is out on how authentic it is, but that really doesn't matter. It's got a fantastic story to it and I want one of my own, Rob is a great guy with an even greater story and some awesome friends, this is well worth a visit, even if only for the story alone, a very welcoming guy who is very happy to speak to you and has some great stories to tell, a really interesting guy and almost most importantly, a trig man.

Rob was in and was able to confirm my theory on the flush bracket number.

In the front garden of no 6. Looks convincing from a distance - didn't look close up

A unique trig well worth visiting! I was lucky enough to meet Rob and he was kind enough to pose for a selfie with me, him and the pillar. It's a great replica, and Rob is a lovely bloke. Unfortunately there are no views to speak of, but you can't have it all I suppose.

Was not expecting a trig point in someone’s front garden but quickly stopped for a photo whilst cycling home!

Was unsure as to bother with this cloned Pillar but glad I did. Spoke to Rob who gave me the story of it and his mates done a very good job.

This is a bit of an oddity. But I like it! The Trig is very close replicate. The FB and Spider are very good. Hope Rob doesn't mind people walking on his lawn to admire his pillar.

A very convincing replica pillar for Rob Newgent's 40th birthday (now 10 years old). Nice bloke, nice mates!

Called in to view this unique pillar, and luckily met the friendly and cheery Rob who, despite the cold pouring rain, and the fact that he was wearing t-shirt & shorts, was pleased to show me his very own 'trigpoint'. Thanks again Rob. And the pillar? A brilliant construction with a beautifully crafted cap & two open sight-holes. I want one!

great to finally visit the famous Rob's pillar and find him on too. fascinating to hear all about it and realise that although it is hollow, it's not thin sides, they are about 75mm thick and it still weighs about 400 kg.

In the area so had to visit; 6 Blenheim Close. Rob at home so got the spiel first hand (except for reason behind FB lettering - private joke, not for the web!) - very pleasant chap, happy to discourse. An excellent replica, just 1 point lost for lack of depressions on top surface where loops are fixed (or is that just half a point?) - not a criticism Rob, just an observation.

This has to be the most unusual TP I have found so far! I was in the area and spotted a TP near to my destination and just had to drop by on my way home. I decided to knock on the door instead of a drive by photo and had the pleasure of meeting Rob and hearing the story of his own TP. He kindly let me take photos as we exchanged stories of our TP escapades. Well worth the effort to find it.

Interesting one this, after a “tip off” that a Pillar had been found in a front garden in Eastleigh, I had to go and a look, assuming it was a moved pillar, to my surprise, after meeting Rob, the story unfolded…Rob is by his own admission a Trigpoint “fan” (not yet obsessed but you never know) and has several pictures of himself at various pillars after mountain bike rides in his hall. Knowing of his interest, his mates decided to make a replica pillar for his 40th birthday. Rob arrived home one day to find it planted in his front garden and his mates all hiding round the corner. The pillar is made of concrete and was made after taking measurements from six other pillars, the attention to detail is amazing, complete with flush bracket (with Rob’s initials) spider, cap, plug and top loops. It is hollow in construction and weighs 400kg. I feel that this (although non OS) deserves a place on Trigpointing UK and so does Rob, he is happy for others to visit and gave me permission to take images and GPS reading. Many thanks for your time today Rob, and happy future “trigging” - logged pending decision from TPUK Admin as to whether or not it has a place here? – if so I suggest a name of “Rob’s Pillar”
