SOTA activation in the mist, used RNAV (GPS) to find the summit. Main activation on the QO-100 satellite.

Room for a couple of cars to park at Laghead Bridge at start of path to Loch Whinyeon. Headed to trig via Benfadyeon on decent quad bike tracks for most of the way. Good view.

Parked on forest road (NX 6324 5906). Break leads straight up to the trig, quite rough and wet in places, although ground frozen 80% today. Pillar has a replacement composite disc sealing the centre tube; unsure of LHD sight hole - front SH is open, rear & right sealed. Good views, but not brilliant as the hills has a large flat to to it.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 4th September 1955 costing £35.14s.9d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NX56/DM/2 by distomat observation within the Kirkcudbright block during 1958. Levelled for height also in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in May 1988. SITE VISIT: Parking in car park, east side of unclassified road at Knocktinkle Viewpoint, NX606598. Curved route over open moor via side of Benfedyeon to gain height avoid boggier ground below. Pillar in good condition. Spider plugged with smooth brown plaster. Flush bracket faces 210° SW. Vented through sight hole on FB face. Long views in all directions.

vgc, brown resin plug. Grass & heather summit; nice view. From WSW, crossing S flank of Benfadyeon - mostly runnable but would be harder during the bracken season.

Fairly uninspiring Marilyn, though marginally better than its neighbour White Top of Culreoch.

Bengray Cap appears to be metal, possibly with motif?
Bengray Trig has only one hole open, below the FB.
