Originally tried to bag this back in October 2011 but couldn't see a way up from near the 'Admiral Rodney' pub. This time I entered a field by a gate off the minor road due S of trig and headed up to another gate visible to NW. Then up obvious track to summit of hill. Over a stile and into the trig field. View of the Malvern Hills obscured at trig. Better views from the summit of the hill to the N.

Park on grass verge of lane to S then NE up hedge line into woods on SW slope. Pheasants, shooting perch and a few old brambles before emerging close to trig point in summit pasture. Worth visiting the summit knoll to the N with fallen fire basket / beacon and extensive if a little hazy views.

No public access to this trig and landowner will not allow access, so nothing for it but a trespass. THE CYCLIST seems to have found the optimum route up which I also took after trying 3 other approaches from the E few months ago and being thwarted at all of them. Mown breaks in fern are growing over. Land is up for sale at the moment (or was couple of months ago, maybe sold by now) so perhaps landowner not wanting to invest time and effort in maintaining the breaks. Despite awkward access, top of hill has been cleared and is a pleasant pasture. Pillar in good condition despite having no cap or plug; all 4 sight holes open. Partial views E and S, mainly obscured by surrounding trees. Walk 250m NE to hill summit for much finer views.

Had noted that previous visitors had started from pub, but didn't see obvious route without passing close to houses. Conitnued to West and turned downhill on small lane. went through first gateway on right and diagonally across pasture to good metal wicket gate into wood. There were a series of recently cut ways mown through the ferns. One led steeply up the hill before bending right near the top edge. A short distance along a fainter path led to another metal wicket gate with the pillar directly opposite in the corner of a pasture field. Can see out to Malverns, but mature deciduous trees block all round vision.

Another elusive Worcestershire pillar nailed! This one is in a cracking spot, on the lower summit of Berrow Hill Iron Age fort. On the actual summit is a large metal fire-holder for the beacon chains that are lit on special occasions. Needed to ask permission from Berrow Farm as there is no public access up here. The central plug is missing and on the tri-bracket are the letters 'TS = JD' which have been stamped into the metal. Any ideas? Terrific views south to Malvern, unusually looking 'end-on'; and eastwards across the Severn Vale to Bredon Hill and beyond. The views westwards are obscured by trees but in Winter you should be able to see in all directions. A nice spot!
