Marlborough has one of the widest high streets in Britain with a church at each end; St Mary's to the E. Church has Norman origins, reconstructed 15thC, tower added 16thC, re-built again 17thC after major fire, Victorian restoration 19thC. Escorted visit to tower roof to search for the bolt, short spiral staircase followed by 3 separate vertical ladder sections. Bolt found in good condition set into resin on one of the leaded roof ribs.
