Parked to the west, room for about 2 cars otherwise, park near woods - followed PROW, turned left onto next Prow - head for top right corner of field leads to a gate and access to the trig - wet underfoot in places - excellent views across weardale

Slightly more circuitous route than jonglew below to avoid shepherds working in a sheep pen in the Trig field and also to avoid disturbing their livestock. Walked up the bridle way from the S to where a footpath crosses the bridleway, then followed field edges though a couple of gates to the pillar. Decent views of Weardale, pillar in 'OK but keep an eye on it' sort of condition. 40 minutes, just under 2 miles there and back.

Good parking S side minor road at NY 8883 3866. Farm track/RoW leads up, then hopped a gate and continued to ascend over a sheep pasture. Pillar is suffering from a multitude of fractures across all its faces, many minor, some more significant; in addition some screed is missing on one vertical edge near the base. Original centre cap retained; rear sight hole open. Distant moorland views.

Walked up from St John's Chapel but weather deteriorated and somewhat damp by the time we got there - still good and dramatic (if windswept) views.

Parked on the road at a lovely viewpoint and followed the track up to the gate then up the moor side. Scorching hot day today.

Parked on lane to south of trig point in a good lay- by. Followed steep track / bridleway to the open access land then N.E along wall side to gate into the trig field.

Parked to the west and followed PROW was lucky as a load of bulls were grazing on the lower slopes and i managed to sneak round them.Trig in vgc with inscribed plug great sunny views from here.

Started late afternoon on a very hot and sunny day. A 2hr return walk from St Johns Chapel. A chip at base and cracking both on the west side of this pillar. Lovely views.

Circular walk from Westgate. Spider has OS metal cap. Some quite wide cracks at top of one face - large pocket chip next to a sight hole - large chip low down on a side corner. No cattle about today! Quite good views.

Parked at the S end of the woods that are NW of the trig and followed Clochandighter's route to the pillar, which has several cracks and a chip.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 26th August 1951 costing £22.13s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NY86/T15 in 1953. Levelled for height in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in August 1983. SITE VISIT: Parked on NW side of road by south end of woods at NY882402. Followed mapped RoW DOWN (SE) to third field on left which is access land. Headed east. Trig in adjacent field approached from NW corner. Grazing land. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Also type stamped into the cap is `CARRBROW HANTMOBS`. Flush bracket faces 176° south. Vented through north sight hole. 360° open skyline to surrounding hills.

plug insitu indented lettering, plus extra indenting as previously recorded. Partial low cloud and eventually rain but still a wonderful place with lovely views.
