Virtually roadside, access can be gained into the field via the gates adjacent to the mast if desired. Nice views & I had a 4m ham radio contact with a chap in Middlesborough whilst parked up having coffee.

My second visit, almost 'visible but unreachable' due to stinging nettles! On my first visit this pillar sat clear of the well trimmed hedge in a pleasant pasture field - this time it was almost lost within the hedge and the field edge was an overgrown scrub land of afore-mentioned nettles. I'd recommend leaving this one till either winter (would have good views after snowfall) or until grazing animals are returned to the field!

Parked on roadside. A gate leads into a sheep pen and there is the trig hidden behind a hedge. This pillar commands great views to the south and east.

Approached (cycled) from Witton Gilbert. A bottom corner of pillar is chipped - some minor side face erosion. Spider has OS metal cap. Good 180deg views centred about NE. Penshaw monument & the sea can be seen.

Parked at the corner then through the pens to the trig. Some local youths were painting the ROC bunker and came to have a nosey as to why I was taking photo's of the pillar. I was expecting some grief but was pleasantly surprised by their genuine curiosity.

Seized with the idea of riding the old Great North Ride, I realised that I could take this TP in too. The views were good if a bit hazy, but the nettles still stung and the surroundings were just as mucky as others have reported. perhaps siting next to a hedge makes the pillars dirty. 70 mile round trip from Morpeth.

behind hedge, short grass with young lambs in field, great views all the way to the North Sea, slightly spoilt by flytipping and telecom tower!!. easy parking by telecom tower.

Approached from NW. Parked beside trig which was behind a high hedge on the NE side of the road. Through gate to north and onto edge of grazing field. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces northwest, compass reading 306°. Vented through NE sight hole. 180° panorama from NW through NE to SE, remainder blocked by high hedge.

Not too easy to find and not over visible in August. Could not locate it in the hedge road side so went through animal pens adjacent to mast. Even then difficult to spot in head high nettles (ouch) and encroaching hedge - white paint long gone and therefore even more camoflaged. All round views very restricted by hedge, animal pens and another high fenced off area. Pillar actually in good condition with original plug with indented lettering.
