(2818) Handy passing point across from the pillar. Hedge has just had its haircut - littered road a testament to this - so all was visible. Top needed a build up of detritus clearing first. Centre cap original - raised lettering. All else good. Unusual numbering on the flush bracket - this pillar was a replacement for nearby S7881 which was destroyed July 1959. Pillar history: Built on the 25th of June 1962, at a cost of £35 19s 7d. Last maintained by the OS in May of 1975.

Simply pulled into the passing place opposite the pillar. it is being devoured by the hedge, so even as you approach it is not obvious.

Bagged this easy one prior to a day and night trip to York with my daughter. Parking available in a passing place directly opposite the pillar which is within a hedge but easy enough to locate. A great example with original OS plug and 11 prefix. Set in the superb loveliness of vast North Yorkshire.

A quick revisit to this easiest of easy pillars for me, and pillar #54 for my helper. It really is being consumed by the blackthorn! I scraped a quick look at the spider/original cap, but it needs someone to have a go with secateurs.

As easy as pillars get - this one even has a layby for your car! It's buried in a thick hedge, but still in good condition, and after a quick scrape back, revealed an original cap. Unusual FB number. The original pillar, Peter Hill, was slightly further south, but destroyed when the A19 came along. Happy to say that the replacement is safe and sound and going nowhere.

I walked down from Beacon Banks on in to Raskelf next for a pint at The Old Black Bull.I got the 13.31 30 Reliance bus back to York from the bus stop right outside the pub.I then had a pint in the Saddle Inn & Bay Horse in Fulford before meeting up with my daughter at the designer outlet for lift home.

HISTORY: This station was created as a replacememt for nearby Peter Hill (S7881, SE38/T70) which was destroyed in July 1959. The new pillar was completed on 25th June 1962 costing £35.19s.7d. Designated as tertiary triangulation station SE38/T119 computation date uncertain. Levelled for height in 1971. Last maintained by the OS in May 1975. SITE VISIT: Situated in hedge to south side of public road. Parked in extended passing place opposite the pillar. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with raised medium sized letters. Flush bracket faces north, ~3°. Open sight hole, if any, buried. No view from this marker.
