Up farm road north west to Dechmont Farm. Called at farm house to check it would be ok to go up to the pillar. ‘On you go’. Around farm buildings then up farm track. A few twists and past a tumble down cottage. At the top of the farm track a couple of gates and a herd of cows nearby on the other side. Over gate cows were curious and started to walk towards me. Gave them a wide berth and hurried on over rough wet ground. Managed to find track which bears right, east and uphill. Flag pole visible first. Continued uphill then pillar came into view. Fabulous views across the city and to hills beyond, and all around. Raised S prefix. Had to walk across rough wet ground on the way down as well, by now the herd of cows were standing on the track.

Parked along the road under the power lines. Route takes you through the middle of the farm, looked for someone to ask but no one about today. Cattle were more bothered about food in the ring feeder than us.

Log #212. Parked car in small layby at NS664575, walked up through farm and past byres. Take a left through a gate before you reach the log, and the trig is under the flagpole almost directly in front of you. A little soggy in places. Pillar is in good condition, although with a little graffiti on the north face. Expansive views over the city, and you can also see the remnants of Gilbertfield castle to the north-west. Continued to the 186m spot height, and was planning to continue over to Turnlaw, but heard firing from one of the nearby farms so headed back down to car. [ExP-170/MiP-8/Rev-2/BM-12/IS-17/Other-3]

Flush bracket S3608 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in April 1947 and again in August 1956. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in November 1981.
