In the private rear garden of Osmanthorpe Manor. The very friendly homeowners allowed me access through their electric gates to bag the trig pillar that is next to their chicken coop. If they aren’t around to ask the pillar can also be seen through the hedge from the Robin Hood Way footpath that runs past the side of the property. I parked at Kirklington Station Car Park on the Southwell trail and walked down the lane to the trig. #4/6 today

Bagged as part of a 9 mile circular hike from Southwell including bagging “Green Ridges” at Hockerton. Moved Pillar is in the rear orchard of Osmanthorpe Manor alongside a relocated Southwell/Kirklington milepost from the adj PROW. The new owners of the property could not have been more obliging in allowing access - think they were more excited about someone coming to bag it than I was bagging it. Apparently I’m the 1st to visit since the bought the property. They are well aware of the Trigs provenance and have all the paperwork between the previous owner and OS concerning the approved relocation. One of my favourite “bags” , made extra special by the enthusiasm of the property owners towards the history of the pillar.

(1413) Pillar marked as destroyed in September of 1995. Moved to it's new location not long after? And first logged as found on here in the late 2000s. Called in at Osmanthorpe Manor twice during the day, but no one was about unfortunately. Pillar readily visible from several vantage points. Looks to be in fine condition. REVISIT: 23.6.19 Called again today, and got lucky. Managed to catch someone as they was about to drive off. They wasn't the home owners, but they gave me a contact number to ring. Permission to visit the pillar freely given. GR via the T:UK app states it's been moved about 7 metres from it's original location. All in good condition, though a slight lean is noticeable. Pillar history: Built on the 26th of October 1948, cost not in records. Last maintained by the OS in November of 1982.

Passed by on a circular walk out from Southwell via here, Edingley and Halam (and The Waggon, good ale, iffy service). Residents out - neighbours confirmed the farmer has recently retired and the property is now rented - decided not to annoy the new tenants by trespassing through their garden, and viewed from bridleway. Looks happy in its new position and in good condition.

The chap who lives at the property was good enough to show me to the pillar. we then discussed their construction and how they were used. Then chatted about levelling. On leaving noticed a cut mark on the house. Another conversation started and I was able to show him the height above mean sea level of the mark.

First of two trigs walking the Southwell Trail. Parked in Kirklington, found Osmansthorpe Manor, knocked on the back door and the gentleman very helpfully took us to the trig in the back garden. Trig was in good condition though there seemed to be slight lean. Near to to the trig is an unusual way marking post. Wish I had a trig in my back garden. The coordinates on this website are for the new position in this garden.

It has been found! My friend Keith while out geocaching noticed a TP in the garden of Osmanthorpe Manor and told me about it. I visited it today (photos to follow). TP can be seen through the garden hedge from the footpath passing along the property boundary. Over 20 years ago I had locked horns professionally with the owner of the property over the future of a local school of which he was Chair of Governors. I was a tad reluctant to ask permission to visit the TP in his garden, but decided he would probably have forgotten me - which he had! I called at the house (door at the side to rear of building as no answer from front door) and he and dog happily accompanied me to the TP. It is in excellent condition with all bits intact. He had it moved from original position with OS approval as it was in the way of agricultural activities. He said he had one previous visitor - but obviously not someone actively involved in this website. He is happy to show visitors to the TP. Grid Ref derived from Memory Map as no GPS
