About a mile south of Londonthorpe, then 500 metres south along dead end lane, fairly well maintained, residential properties, looks like a farm at the southern end. Expecting a roadside pillar. It is in a field a few metres from the gate. Gate has barbed wire around the top. Pillar is in the company of a load of clutter, roll of fencing, fence posts and concrete slabs. Slabs were leaning on pillar covering the FB. Possibly on purpose. Effort to lean them away and get picture of FB. Low marks are directed at the landowner, however, it is in good condition with spider and cap in place. No views, would have been good at one time.

(1130) Parked up at the top of the lane, but with hindsight, I could easily have driven down. Called in at Heath Farm to ask about visiting the pillar, but the owner was away - he lives in nearby Welby apparently, and the chap who answered the door couldn't give permission. Gate and fence barbed wired, and plenty of sheep in the paddock, so didn't bother climbing over. As the pillar is very close to the gate/fence, and everything is visible and FB was readable, it wasn't that important to get right up to it. Would have been nice though. Pillar in very good condition. Pillar history: Built on the 27th of May 1938, cost not listed in the archive. Last maintained by the OS in June of 1978.

Called at Heath Farm to ask permission. the sign on the door says " Ring the bell, if no one answers, dig weeds". Knocked on door no bell, no one in. So drove back to trig and took photos, job done tried my best !.

No animals in the paddock today, but some unfriendly barbed wire wound around the gate's top rail gave me a few scratches. In very good condition, all metalwork intact.

A joint visit with Carole. A nice drive up to visit. No one around to ask permission to enter paddock. Pillar in good condition still retains an original metal plug with raised lettering.

Easy access off a farm road - just a quick hop over the gate. Original plug with raised letters. Concrete base exposed about 6" allround. No paint. Sightholes closed. On the edge of a paddock with a couple of horses who took no interest in me at all! Middle-distance agricultural views.

Last of 5 for the day, in field with 2 horses, asked at local house if they minded me logging it... got into quite a coversation about what it was, it does supprise me at times that people have no idea what these "lumps of concrete" are... Horses seemed to take quite an interest, thought they were going to eat my etrex.. then the bear... wandered off when they realised bear didn't want to be a tasty snack. Piller in good condition and metalwork intact.
