From Nant Hir pillar, returned northward then swept west, curving round the head of the Garw valley, stopping for lunch on the crest with spectacular views down the line of the valley. Then a short sharp climb to the summit of Llyndwr Fawr. Pillar ok despite a big chunk missing from near base, Of its predecessor there is no sign. Bright and breezy spring day with excellent views, the Vale, Gower to the west, Pen-y-fan, Corn Ddu and an unusual profile of the Black Mountain, showing the Fan Hir ridge as a distinct summit. Then followed a long descent on FP's, some of which didn't exist on ground, to reach Maesteg and bus out to Port Talbot.

1 of 2 today did this before walking to TP2323 Coedcau Isaf, the weather was clear at the time of the visit and the 360deg views from Aberthaw Power Station to the Gower and beyond were spectacular. The trig is in a poor condition with a large crack around the base at FB level, the FB, Spider are both in place but the centre plug is missing.

Second trig of the day on a circular route from Blaengwynfi and Coedcae Isaf Trig and unusual stone face! Trig sits as always at the highest point and windmill. Trig has a big chunk taken out of it and has a crack running around at FB level. Cap top missing and open but spider in place.

Fourth trig of the day on a circular route from Pontycymer. Parked at the Forestry entrance. Nice 11 mile loop. Trig sits on high ground in front of the highest windmill. FB intact. No sign of original trig S1598

1st trig of the year! walked up from croeserw through forestry then wind farm. beautiful 360 views of the coast & the snow capped mountains of the brecon beacons. the best trig so far.

Cracking views down to the Swansea coast. Came from Blaengarw forest and over to Coedcae Isaf and then Foel Fawr and back up through Caerau side of forest to Garw. Good 7 hour stroll.

From Abergwynfi initially following the (non-existent) bridleway to Bwlchgarw then across tussocky grass to the trig. Carried on to the Coedcae Isaf pillar.

From the N, parking roadside in Abergwynfi. Initial steep ascent. Pillar sits on exposed foundations and is badly damaged. Section of concrete missing at front right and RHS, and fracture extending to rear face. Top cap has been lost, no plug; all sight holes open. Extensive panoramic views.

Parked at end of the road at Blaegwynfi and then followed footpath up into forest and then out onto hillside and up between Mynydd Caerau and Werfa. Onto Mynydd Caerau first then onward to Werfa before returning to Blaegwynfi on a lovely sunny morning.

no cap or plug; chunk missing around FB. LR170 (1996) shows summit as 1m higher than trig, but trig seems to be at highest point. wide flat summit, mast, good view

Not a bad walk over from Werfa. The track is quite damaged by all the 4x4 and trail bikers that use these hills. The ground was pretty frozen today which made the going easier. The trig has a chunk missing out of it near the bottom and hence the damaged classification. This is a grassy sheep grazing plateau with a nearby mast.
