I’d read on the here that there was a lady farmer that didn’t really want anyone on her land so, we parked up on the road side in front of a metal gate and hubby and the boys waited in the car while I scrambled up the steep hill towards the trig site. It wasn’t visible from the road but I found it on the top of the ridge behind some trees. Fabulous views from up there but I descended back down again as quick as my knees would allow!

South east from Slawston village, pulled over after about quarter of a mile beside gate to south of hill. Couldn’t see pillar from the road. Across field and uphill. Noticed a herd of cattle a couple of hundred meters away to east grazing by the hedge. Bit of a clamber up past lots of rabbit holes (going by the pellets all over the place). At top turned east, pillar came into view in long grass. Good views all around. Spider and plastic cap in place. On way back down was about 100 metres from the gate when the herd of cows began running towards the gate and looked like they might cut me off. Started running myself and they would probably have reached it before me but they swerved away fortunately.

An easy hop-over-the-gate trig, this time with the added bonus of a short sharpe climb to the summit of Slawston Hill. The trig isn't quite at the highest point, but at the edge of the 'plateaux', thus making it visible from the road below. Plastic cap. Worth the trip to the top as the summit has an unexpected and lovely 360° panorama. Big rewards from such a little Hill.
