I had intended to park at the White Bear pub on Tingley roundabout, but this appeared closed down although it has been a pub for as long as I can remember. Parking was available just off the A650 near where the white railings begin there is a semi circular area near a small war memorial. Walked down the road that is perpendicular to the A650 heading W, found Tingley Hall Rise and followed to the trig garden. Truly unusual, this trig must have been trickier in its day, but access is now straightforward. Only downside is a feeling of being watched a little by the new houses. This scores over highly simply due to the fact that the developer, Seddon Homes, has actually had the courage and decency to retain the trig. It has been re-sited and no longer sits on the top of the hill. It has also been reversed as the flush bracket is now facing the opposite way to its original position. Its now on a slope, a little way from its original position but with free access to all. A job well done by Seddon Homes in my opinion - will look good once the vegetation grows. All the homes are currently empty. I do wonder what the residents will think of future trig tiggers! Incidentally access via the road opposite the White Bear pub (see my previous log & photo) is no longer an option as its fenced off at the entrance and a tall wooden fence further up the hill encloses the new housing from this side (see photo attached to this entry). Im on foot but parking in the old entrance (rather than the bus stop) might be an option as by walking up the footpath beyond the bus stop (see photo) just around the corner on the right a waymarked Public Footpath gives access to the entrance to the estate. The other option is to access it from the A650, Wakefield side of the Tingley gyratory, currently well signposted as the houses are up for viewing/sale.

It is slighty damaged the top is knocked and it is shorter than I was expecting. It's open access so people will be able to visit it any time. Not sure if it's been resited or not I didnt have the GPS with me today. But well done to the developers.

Another visit after reading recent reports. Not sure about this one. I thought about asking the occupants of Tingley Hall bungalow about the fate of the trig at the top of their garden only to find that the bungalow and garage have been demolished and all surface vegetation removed. A fence surrounds the building site with an earth bank on the inside. Noone was about and it would have been easy enough to get onto the site through an obvious gap but I decided not to. Views over the fence obstructed by new houses and building plant/materials which make it difficult to determine reference points to how it used to be, but unless the trig is behind the fence at the top of the site then its gone - at least for now.

Visible and accessible if you are prepared to trespass into what I suspect is a garden. I approached from the A653 up the driveway of the two bungalows - the Private notice is still there but the wording has faded away! Go to the left on the bark chippings and then climb the bank behind the bungalows to the pillar by the fence. I do not think I was seen and was not challenged. In and out in five minutes. Pillar is in good condition although becoming quite moss covered. Plastic plug with one hole visibly open. A tranquil spot but views somewhat restricted.

If you approach from the bus stop over the fence keep to the left of the bungalow grounds as there are gaps through the brambles all the way to the pillar. There are some tracks as if its being cleared. If you come this way take the right hand track climbing up a few feet and you will see houses in front of you as you face approx SE, as you face the RH end house the trig is under a tree and covered in brambles just to your right. I was approached by the man who lives in this house who was very pleasant, I told him why I was there and he pointed out where the trig was, as even though I was only 10 feet away I couldn't see it. He told me he had no idea who owned this bit of land. I had parked just off Bradford Road east of the big roundabout where you can turn off south into the residential area and there on the grass area is the Memorial to the crashed Halifax bomber mentioned by mickandshane below. Anyway this is definitely one the trickiest trigs I have found so far!!

Head into the rough ground to the left of the bungalow, not the right which we did last time we looked for it. We didn't ask permission as the area seems to be a kind of no mans land. According to a reliable source there used to be a plaque near the trig in memory of a Lancaster bomber that crashed here during the war. Plug with plastic cap.
