Scary walk down The Cobb, felt like I was going to be falling off into the sea! Bolt located - our first bolt- photo taken and quickly retreated for a restorative coffee! Amazing views on a scorching late summer day

Bolt is the top of the Cobb harbour wall. Interesting historical location. Lovely view of the harbour, Jurassic coastline and golden cap. Used the Tri app to find the location. Missed by many taking selfies.

The bolt was found near the end of the famous harbour wall of Lyme Regis. The 1½ inch diameter bolt has a few minor nicks on its surface but is mostly polished quite smooth and otherwise appears to be in good condition. I couldn’t resist looking for it during a day out at the seaside with the family. The trig looks over Lyme Bay to the south. The town is on the hillside to the north with the seafront and harbour below. Golden Cap soars above the Jurassic Coast of West Dorset in the east with the Isle of Portland in the distance to the south east. Some nearby cliffs of the Triassic Coast of East Devon are to the west with some distant peaks of South Devon on the horizon in the south west. The Cobb is a Grade I listed structure and the buildings on it are Grade II listed. The surrounding coastline is a World Heritage Site. The Cobb features in a Jane Austin novel and in the film “The French Lieutenant’s Woman.”

Station T174 in Secondary Block ST11, Listed as a Bolt, Computed 1953. There were quite a few bolt shaped holes, but we came across a slightly bashed but polished Brass Bolt, just over 1m from the north face of The Cobb and about 8m from the end. Cant be absolutely sure it is the Bolt (given the number of holes), but seems an excellent candidate.
