The bolt is embedded in mass concrete, which it is assumed extends through about 500mm of peat to the underlying granite. The concrete is overgrown and shows some signs of cracking. At the time of visiting, the point appears usable. Apart from being a secure site, the health & Safety implications of allowing Public access to the site are insurmountable. I visit the location for work purposes.

The "bolt in concrete" described in the OS trig database is on a piece of ground close to a mast within the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal site. Despite contacting BP well in advance of my visit to Shetland they were unwilling to grant access to the site to visit the bolt. I did not get a response to my inquiry as to whether the bolt is still in situ. I observed the site from several different angles over the preceding couple of weeks and this was as close as I got - the parking area on the approach road at HU 4018 7461 - 1.2 miles from the bolt.
