Good condition 16th Aug 2020  15:15  by Da Lipper

Back again with benji78 and a trowel this time. First place I dug was the square depression which turned out to have loose rocks under the mounds of sea pinks. Everywhere we prodded the trowel in seemed very deep no solid bedrock underneath. We looked all around for a suitable site, but all other locations were too far away from the GPS readings. I started to remove some rocks and turned one over which had another witness bolt on it. More digging with the trowel following up the bedrock fortunately revealed the bolt in great condition.

Family day out to Uyea. Found quite easily with nephew. Unsure if it's the bolt as reported in previous posts. Forgot to take my trowel to dig around the square depression nearby, so I'll have to come back another day.

Couldn't find it 12th Jun 2019  11:56  by jonglew

Track from North Roe possibly navigable by ordinary 4x4 - took mine to HU 3536 8915 for Skelberry later in the day. For Uyea though it was a landrover to HU 3243 9174, walk from there. Easy drop down to the intertidal strand and reasonably easy scramble up the other side, some interesting route finding through the intertidal boulders though. Disappointingly no bolt was found, just a rivet, presumably a witness, but on a relatively small and loose stone - all very strange. NB. GR logged is for the rivet.

Couldn't find it 12th Jun 2019  11:40  by peregrinus

Rivet in rock in cairn assumed to be a witness, bolt may be buried in peaty mound which has a neat square hole but prodding failed to find anything to dig for and trowel left behind expecting an easy bag. Landrover ride in then a little exposed loose ground to access island about 1hr either side of low tide close to a spring

Rivet in moveable rock Assumed to be a witness, bolt not found

Spectacular island, bolt on obvious rock close to summit. Bolt a bit bashed about.

I've not been there myself: Colin Crawford didn't spot the bolt but reports a longish but easy walk in on track, easy descent to beach and apparently plenty of leeway either side of low tide
