Easily found after studying the photos of previous logs ,1 inch bolt cemented in with a witness rivet close by near the drainage channel. Shocked how high the pier was when the tide was out It must have been over 50 ft down to the shallow water with no safety railings.

To add some interest, this site was the last place on the British mainland to be invaded. (by American revolutionaires 1778). They should have been allowed to keep Whitehaven.

Managed to find this one on the second visit after checking on previous finders photos. Don't think I've ever visited a harbour wall before that has so many random bits of iron work set in it!

Simple find with GPS and torch. Night time visit so lots of twinkling lights across the harbour. Whitehaven looks attractive when you can't see it!

Found it as described - I used the rivet by the drain as a marker. Some construction work on the pier may restrict access.

It took a while to find as my GPS was saying the bolt was 23ft away!

Yes, agree with jonglew and asbown, standard hemispherical OS bolt, vgc, also a smaller bolt 4m nearer to top of steps, at edge of drainage channel, slightly damaged and presumably not OS

Have to concur with asbown below, all the other photos for this bolt are not the bolt but of the residue of one of the railing uprights - sorry guys, you've been looking at the wrong thing. The actual bolt is the standard 2" diameter and of the usual bronze-like metal and is approx 2.5m in from the edge of the quay. I paced out each side the 'pseudo bolt' and can confirm there are bolt-like items along the quay-side at regular intervals confirming they are the remains of the old railings. The actual bolt has some oxidation, but imho should be re-classified as 'good'.

bolt is slightly corroded in an eroded sandstone block. Located 50cm from edge of pier. the pier edge has been replaced with newer sandstone blocks. UPDATE: see 4 Aug 2013 this log incorrectly describes a metal bracket/bolt/fencestump as the trigmark. The actual mark is 2M from the quayside as has been described by subsequnet visitors

West pier bolt my GPS indicates the reported location of bolt is 1 m to the right. clearly small navigation errors can have big consequences

Noted the corroded bolt when visiting the 1GL Bolt bench marks on the lighthouse (NX 9689 1867) and the one on the Old Quay (NX 9679 1847) .
