Out with Meltdiceburg for an evening walk, we could not resist stopping off for this trig point, with muggles galore nearby. At least Explorer Dotty was able to bag this as part of her love for trigpoints.

Out with Hitman9956 for a little evening wander around Billinge Hill. A nice sunset despite the cloud. Good to visit the trigpoint, a pity there's a bit of damage to the top.

Bank Holiday visit to this trig, starting from Pemberton Train Station. Trig in a decent location near to a folly, although the flush bracket is facing the nearby fence. There was rain in the air so I didn't hang around. Headed to Orrell and jumped on the train back to Manchester. An enjoyable walk despite the weather.

A nice walk out on Christmas Eve. Parked up at the top of Beacon Road and and followed the FP signs around the quarry to the top of the hill where the pillar sits tucked away by some brambles a short distance from the summer house. Good views all around, especially to the north of the West Pennine Moors. Beer in the Twisted Vine Ale House in Ashton-in-Makerfield afterwards.

Damaged, but still there! Spider and plug missing flush bracket intact. surprisingly good views from the top over Merseyside and south Lancs. alot of reward for VERY little effort to get up there!

Parked on Crank Road and took the public right of way (PRoW) and then a footpath from there up to the pillar at the summit of Billinge Hill. The top of the pillar has been extremely badly damaged by vandals, with the toerags / scum having completely removed the spider and plug

Followed the good footpaths from Beacon Rd around Billinge Landfill Site finally climbing up the `Lump` to spot the trig which is situated next to a fence and a wall with a Summerhouse folly close by, the trig is damaged with the spider removed. all sight holes are open and the FB faces 125 Good viewpoint

I parked at Bankes Park in Billinge then walked down Beacon Road to its conclusion where a raised concrete path takes you to a small compound. Turn R after the compound and good paths will lead you towards the lump. No fences, open ground, no trespass - easy. A very interesting trig with big views - Liverpool, Manchester, Bolton, Winter Hill, Fiddlers Ferry and more. Top damaged, with metalwork gone. FB intact, note no S prefix. A lovely summer's afternoon and my first Merseyside trig is the county top and a Marilyn! Ace.

Quick n easy. There is no Spider on this pillar, So damaged as opposed to slightly id say. View really is as good as others have said.

Thats gotta hurt Why? Is there really that little else to do around here that someone has gone to all the effort to remove the spider.

Spotted this on the map whilst passing and thought it didn't look too bad, read a log that said "short walk". So I convinced Mr U2 to go off list and try to bag it. We headed in from the road on the SE. Not great, a fence to climb over or a fence hammock to sort of fall on and over, a steep climb up to then be faced with another worse fence. Mr U2 got over it and even bagged a few Pokemon! We drove past it from another direction and a I saw an easier route so logging as "slightly damaged" as I could easily have hugged it from the other direction!

Definitely worse than 'slight damage'.. the centre and spider are totally gone with plenty of the surrounding top. All sights are open but blocked internally, probably with debris. Smashing views today and I was able to pick out the BM on the neighbouring, heavily vandalised 'Summer House' folly.

Lovely views today, we could see a long way from here, easily spotted Fiddlers Ferry and the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, even though it was a cloudy day!

Just like I did so in 2012, I got the year off to a fine start today with a county top trig pillar. I came up from Wigan North Western train station, continued on to Alma Field and Ashursts Beacon, and then found my way back via the Leeds & Liverpool Canal towpath. The views were a bit overcast and dreary, though I was still able to pick out Helsby Hill a good many miles away to the south.

Caught back end of the cycling tour of Britain in Billinge on way to pillar.Parked SE of pillar at the end of Beacon Road,then short stroll to top.Pillar with gnarled top,retains OS cap,albeit damaged,BsM type flush bracket and all sight holes open but filled with debris.Good views today,seems a popular spot judging by amount of walkers out.

As others have said the pillar is there but the top has been badly vandalised. Quite an elevated loction in a predominantly flat area.

Short work up from road to trig, it's surprising how good the views are from this little hill, also another county top. Did an 11 mile walk the day before over Totridge and Fair Snape Fell, rather boggy!

A quirky summit with its tower on top of a large hummock. Chap up here on his radio transmitter talking to the world and at least its dry again. Parked in pull off at Crank Lane top (room for 3 cars) Have been the highest people in Gloucestershire; West Midlands and now Merseyside today (pre unitary authorities). Trig tucked up against wall. Views good and sea visible at Liverpool.

Parked on little layby on top road good path past golf course straight to trig saw sparrowhawk hovering overhead.Trig located near old nuclear bunker complex tower exellent views here out towards liverpool area.trig is slighly damaged the top has had quite a bashing but spider and plug with raised lettering remains intact.

Surprisingly good viewpoint on a sunny summer's evening. Trig somewhat the worse for wear. Sight holes open. When some locals saw me taking an interest, they quizzed me on its purpose and history.

Sad looking pillar, covered in graffiti and chunks of aggregate missing. Very windy spot, surrounded by litter and pylons. Plug had raised lettering but had been painted white. Hazy day, so no views.

Lancashire. A rare highpoint in these parts and plenty of masts taking advantage of it. It was hazy with very limited views. Graffiti and litter detract from the location. BSM style flush bracket. The plug with raised lettering has been painted white.

Parked at the crst of Crank Road and walked along the footpath beside the golf course. Great views from a rare high point in this area.

No smells no landfill no brick wall. Cold and windy day. Several people building a drystone wall on the boundary between the top and the ex quarry/tip. the tip is grassed and peppered with vents. I passed an electric generator site (working) pulling methane out of the tip and feeding electric into the grid @ 11kV on the walk up from billinge. there is still a sign for the tip. I guess easiest access is to drive up the "private" road near the roundabout s of billinge. there is turning space, sufficient room to park and no-one about to complain. Trig graffitied, well weathered on top (siteholes open). not only is there a stone monument thing on top but also a Royal Ordnance Corps burrow (lid concreted over) Views probly good on another day :-(

Trig unchanged since the last visit safe parking to the S at the end of the residential road then a short walk up around the old rubbish tip.

Top damaged; spider exposed but firmly attached. Plug intact but has taken a battering. All the hooks have been cut through. BsM style bracket. Slight graffiti but the adjacent building has received most attention from the scribblers. Hilltop also features the base of what might have been a view finder plus what seems to be the base of a flag pole; also the remains of an ROC bunker just to the W. Hazy views; would be good on a clearer day.

Spider exposed but no other damage. FB with S above numbers. By scruffy tower, wide urban view, a good place for street light watching. Visited in dark, with Alma Field, en route to a conference. Simple approach from SE.

Trigpoint in a bit of a sorry state as pillar has been subject to graffti and vandalism in the past. It seems as though even an attempt has been made to try and remove the spider bracket. However, on the bright side there are good views all around from this location.

Great views. I used to climb to the top of Billinge Lump with my Dad when I was was a child. I even have a picture of me at the top. I never noticed the Trigpoint, I'm going to have to see if it's on the picture.

A baggers delight this hill being a Marilyn, County Top and a Trig Point and possessing two geocaches. The adjacent landfill seems to have been capped and is no longer smelly

Infamous landfill marilyn. Summit a collection of grafittised objects. Approached by walking through Woodland Trust woods, the organisation really strugling with the extremes of public access here.
