Sunny day walk down the east side of Gouthwaite Res to reach Wath and then a steep detour .Mislaid my map so ended up heading uphill before reaching the gate straight onto moorland. What I did get was a superb view up the Nidderdale valley which disappeared as I approached the pillar.Steep descent down Silver Hill.

The pillar sits on a little rise, with beautiful views, and is in excellent condition despite the open cap.

Another steep rise to Wath Lane. The gate Rad mentions is just before the road bends, approx 400 yards west of Somerset House, thereafter either follow the obvious track leading slighty left uphill or follow the walls. The signs at the gate say this is now access land - no dogs allowed. Fairly decent view from the trig - Im amazed no-ones mentioned that its set atop an absolutely huge rabbit warren
