We were out on a nearby geocaching trail and passing the farm. I stopped by and spoke to the farmer who guided me up to the pillar. The pillar itself is is excellent condition. The views from here are really good over to Wales, Westbury and Pen Hill at Wells.

Pulled over on verge in Clutton Hill just to south west of the crossroads. Through metal gate into field. Footpath heads north east but followed track marks which headed north west. Gradually uphill then through opening into next field to north. Then headed east and uphill along the hedge line ducking under a (live, ow!) electric fence. Ducked a bit lower on the way back. Followed hedge line to high ground and pillar came into view. Hedge looked like it had been recently cut. Pillar on north side of hedge. FB on north face. Good views to north. Views to south but only over the top of the hedge. Spider and cap in place.

Parked roadside in Clutton Hill; short walk along farm track. Called in at farm house for permission. 'Excuse me, we're hoping to visit the trig are you the landowner?', 'No, that would be John, he's bell-ringing but he's a friendly sort, you can go on up to the trig'. Located in a rough pasture, pillar in good condition, nice smooth finish; original cap, lightly indented lettering, all 4 sight holes open. Extensive 360deg views, suprising how good they were, even if a little hazy.

Both Severn Bridges, Malverns, May Hill, Forest of Dean, Sugar Loaf(?) near Abergavenny, Welsh Hills, Mendips, etc. Last visit in a trip including the Bath and Bristol areas. I had hoped to complete all my outstanding pillars in this area but thwarted on two in central Bristol. One behind security fence on allotments and not in sight and one with access cbarred by building site!

Parked by the triangle followed the PUBLIC footpath by climbing a padlocked gate only to be confronted by about 50 bullocks, no danger but they were very inquisitive, quickly retraced by steps back to the triangle. Started again walked up the lane passed Ashdene to a gate at the top of the hill on the left, climbed over the gate only to find the field protected with an electric fence. This simple trig proved to be quite comlex.

We parked at the road triangle at the top of Cuckoo Lane and took the tarmac track up past Ashdene. Enter the field at the first gateway and head up across the pasture from there as there is no access at the top of the hill. The pillar is on the north side of the hedge but it's an easy fence.
