(3349) Parked Oakerthorpe Road/Nan Gells Hill. Short walk S from there to start of PRoW, which would be easy to miss. The route up from the road to the pillar isn't the best, but it gets you there. Quite a nice location once reached. The pillar sits on a stone plinth, and is in reasonable condition. Minor damage aside this one could do with a new paint job to smarten it up a bit. Pillar history: Built on the 23rd of February 1937, at a cost of £5 19s 4d. Last maintained by the OS in June of 1983.

Parked outside the cemetery and completed a circular walk up via Black Rock and back down via Oakerthorpe Road. Personally I found the walk up hard work. The path was quite steep, and involved a section in a fern forest with a few boulders/inclines to get up. The route down seemed far more steady through a smaller section of woodland (with firmer ground), across a field and down a set of steps. Would recommend approaching via Oakerthorpe Road if gradients aren't your thing

Parking by the cemetery to the NW (save paying for parking) nice stroll along The High Peak Trail, then past Black Rock, Pillar in my opinion is good, great view from the top and along the path.

Walked up from High Peak Junction along the High Peak Trail to Black Rocks. Came back across Cromford Moor. Very cold day but the blue sky was wonderful. Great views on this walk. The trig had been slightly vandalised with a black ship and some orange graffiti otherwise in good condition

A relatively recently repainted in white Trig, already with a bit of light graffiti on it, including a sailing ship which actually looks it could be part of the trig design. Cap missing. Steep climb up from Black Rocks Car Park past Black Rocks onto the summit 'plateaux'. Some views curtailed by trees but beautiful in the autumn sunset. Return via a less steep route to Sheep Pasture Top then along the High Peak Trail.

Another cheap skate here who, to avoid the parking charges, parked on the lane next to the cemetery. I am rather fond of the industrial history of this area so was pleased to visit the pillar close to Black Rocks on Cromford Moor. Very easy to locate and not the honey pot attraction you would imagine it to be in this area. I love a chippy supper and a good one can be had in Cromford. Gift Bolehill to our best recovery food.

Our second walk up to this trig from Wirksworth, daughter's first time. Lovely habitat contrast from limestone area. Unobstructed views would be nice (if trees regrown elsewhere of course).

May Day Trig. Parked at Black Rocks car park then up past the Rock which was busy with some people rock climbing. But I was more interested in my own prize....this pillar is on the ROW and pretty easy to find near to a transmitter. Cap missing and one edge of the spider is exposed. Nice views, Carsington Water is just visible as is what I assume is the Crich Memorial.

Parked in small roadside car park near cemetery and walked up past Black Rocks. Nice easy stroll across to the TP. Lovely sunny day with good visibility out towards Carrsington Dam etc. Not keen on all these Communication Towers littering the skylines but don't give it a thought when chatting away on the mobile !

Second of two trigs on a day walking with my mate, Tracker Dog. Brass plug missing, hence slightly damaged. Fairly easy walk from trig at Alport Hill, views ok especially of the quarries. Good place to sit for a cuppa. Nearby Black Rocks are impressive, local fire service blokes were practicing abseiling when we passed.

really nice approach from blackrocks through the wilderness to this one eventually spotting it proud on the hill,my steps quickening up as i drew ever nearer!!really nice views (apart from the trees)especially carsington water in the distance,wished id had brought up a tin of white emulsion for the trig,looks quite sorry for itself!

nice little tramp up from the path from south at Bolehill with Spanish friend Becky. Glorious viewpoint of quarrying cliffs across the valley to west and just a glimpse of a north western arm of Carsington reservoir. And flush bracket number to match my son Jamie's 17th birthday. I'll have to see if I can persuade him that we should re-visit together actually on the day 1st July '16 in two and a half years time !! He'll probably simply say, "Dad, You're nuts"

Returned to PROW from Batemans Plantation and followed it down hill past a rather ramshackle Moor Farm. Along High Peak trail, passing the interesting Middleton Top, to Black Rock. Took track up hill following southern perimeter of woods eventually emerging onto open heathland and then making for the communications mast until pillar came into view. Pillar itself is slightly damaged - obvious crack towards the bottom, one edge of spider exposed and no plug (see photos). Limited views due to trees - probably a good thing too as quarries abound in this part of the Peak !!

A wet misty day atmospheric a walk from the butchers in Wirksworth some nice meat.Have spent many times here with the kids,nice walk to Ambergate for bus home and get this food cooking.

Out with my walking group - The Irregulars, LDWA - and our leader took the footpath that brought us directly to this pillar. The pillar is, therefore, easily accessible and highly visible. The pillar is in good condition although the plug has gone missing so the top is open to the elements. Some lovely views from this elevated position.

Parked at Black Rocks car park, steep climb through woods into open area on top. Pillar on stone base about 18 inches high. Wasw painted white but now fading. Plug gone. Slight damage to top of pillar on one side exposing end of metal. Good views to E and SW, otherwise obscured by trees.

Parked at Black Rocks then up past the Trigpoint and onto Wirksworth then back via Middleton Top.

Whitewashed trig on edge of Cromford Moor. Easy reach of Bole Hill hamlet (roadside parking) by FP which has good views on climb. Trig is not such a good viewpoint though Carsington Water sneaks into view through a gap and you can see the hills to the East.

Drizzley good friday but it was worth the walk up from the Black Rocks car park. The views were amazing. Walked back down via Worksworth just to get even wetter.

Walked up from the High Peak Trail (near the car park for Black Rocks) - Quite a hard climb after I'd just walked over from Carsington Water but worth it all the same. Apprantly there is a new cache closeby.

Hard walk (for me) from Black Rocks - but not that hard if you are fitter than the average couch potato (like me). Good views of a massive quarry and of Riber Castle.

Easy walk up the footpath to the south east. Fabulous views. The Steeplegrange Light Railway at the bottom of the hill and the nearby Ecclesbourne Valley Railway are worth visiting.

Bolehill has recently been classified as a HuMP - a hill with a 100m promentary, which was my main reason for visiting. It was good to get back to trigpointing after such a wet month.

well it probably was my first, at a time when trigs were still maintained and there were no masts nearby. There is a large amount of forestry clearance underway to the east so the views may improve. TBH I reckon they are not too bad now - I could see Carsington reservoir + locations of several other trigs W,E,N + S. There are signs that the top face has been repaired in the past, and there is a void (15mm dia) at the end of one of the spider legs, which will soon lead to cracking of the top

Parking in a DD park to the NE or on a roadside pull in further S just past the footpath. Easy climb up an back. Quarry impressive but all round views to be pleased with after the grimness around Derby/Belper

a short walk up from black rocks,20 or so ramblers milling around the pillar so i had a 15 minute wait until they had buggered off [ you cant share a pillar with a crowd.

Hole filled, painted white, visibility now comprimised by forestry plantations. Pillar is not quite at the summit. Accessed easily by waymarked forest trail. Cycled up to Black Rocks from High Peak junction

This is on a small hill just outside the village of Bolehill. Access to the path off the road is via narrow gaps in the drystone walls.

Nearby Black Rocks are of much interest, as is the High Peak Trail which runs past and down the huge incline to High Peak junction. Ran round here many times when orienteering, although it was a bit round round the trig point twnty years ago.

Nice sandy, heathery top with new conifer forestry possibly to obscure views in future. Pillar on exposed square plinth. Good views over quarry. Approached from High Peak railway line (now country walk) via Black Rock.
