Parked at the top of the B road to the north east - from there quad bike tracks go all the way to the pillar. Fantastic views with numerous tops visible in all directions. I love these walks on the remote Durham moors - no one to be seen once we left the road

Climbed up from the parking space down by Bollihope burn. Long steady climb mostly following a track. Beautiful views from the top. Followed the other track down to the road and then decided on the spur of the moment to do Catterick Moss as well even though I bagged it back in January

Straightforward walk up from the B6278 on a clear grassy quad bike track all the way to the trig. Needless to say we didnt see anyone all day and continued up towards Snowhope Hill.

Altitude 545m. Very windy but quick stroll up from road. Very quick descent with a following wind. Looking at the posted coordinates, coordinates for other finders and my coordinates I am perplexed as to why the trig point is marked on the OS maps at NY 96064 35472 almost 100m away.

Spider capped (resin?) - small chip on one side edge. Gritstone rocks & cairn a few hundred m to NE. Views quite nice. Approached from Catterick Moss.

Last maintained by the OS in August 1983. SITE VISIT: Approached from NE. Parking on hardstanding verge east side of B6278 at NY987370. Direct route keeping to high ground as indicated by contours. Grassy grazing moor. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with smooth brown resin. Flush bracket faces 355° north. Vented through east sight hole. 360° open outlook. Plug replaced by resin cover; one sighting hole open. Warm spring morning. Track leaves the Stanhope road just S of col; boggy at first then reasonable.

Across from Stanhope road col. Eventually found track to within 50m of summit, but not sure it helped much in the squelchy conditions of this rainy August and September.

Just a bit of a trek, this one. I parked where the B6278 crosses the Bollihope Burn and walked up the steam to the cache placed there. Having found that, I headed up across the moore directly towards the trig point. There were no footpaths and the rough grass and heather was tiring to walk through. The trig point is in good condition execpt for the centre plug which has been removed and the hole filled with a brown resin material. The view to the east is good but the view in other directions is obscured by the surrounding hills.
