Drove down Path Hill then east towards Whitchurch. Past closed gates of Bozedown Farm. Thought about calling there to ask permission but drove on a little further and pulled over on the verge between the road and footpath. Hill directly to north looked quite steep. Up embankment to footpath above and parallel to the road. No obvious way over barbed wire fence and lots of branches and sticks have been laid to add to the deterrent. Up across open field a bit exposed to houses to west and farm house to east. Over another fence a third of the way uphill into woods, which provided cover. Pretty steep climb to top but worth it. Excellent views to south across the Thames Valley. Plugged cap. Sheep grazing lower down.

As others have said there is no easy way to this pillar so I took the direct approach. I parked to the south by the Alpacas and then just headed up the farm road. Once past the houses I just started to go up the hill. I didn’t see anybody else. Pillar found in good condition with excellent views.

I really wanted to bag this one, as it is quite close to me and the views should be good. I read other people logs and know that it would be very Secret Squirrel. I worked out that probably the best way of getting there, with the least chance of bumping into anyone and staying away from any buildings, was to start in Whithurch Hill, just off the B471, on Goring Heath Rd. There is parking by the Sign saying The Chiltern Way Extension, if you need to drive there. I cycled, naturally. Note; the Wihtchurch Hill, is great to cycle down but not to climb up! Follow the Path heading East, past the houses and across the grass field through the gate saying, “This is a foot Path; No Bikes, Horses, etc” and on to the farm track way. Keep heading East for 1/10 mile and go down the Private track heading South. (You are now in Secret Squirrel Mode for about 0.6 of a mile!) At the end of this track follow the field edge on the south side heading towards the west. The field had crops in it but the boarder has been left as grass and had been cut, so was easy to follow. At corner of the filed head down hill towards the SE. There are loads of path ways into this wood and it is quite easy going. Heading SW cut down the wooded hill until you come out onto a set of grass fields. There were no animals in them. In a rather short distance there are 3 gates to cross until you get to the track coming up from Bozebown Farm. Carry on straight up through the second woodland and there is a gate at the top to get access to the field with the Trig Point in it. There is a bit of an animal track to follow along the edge of this filed that keeps you quite well hidden until you see the TP. The total distance from the carpark is about a mile. See JPG for path taken. I didn’t stay long but the views to the South, over the Thames Valley are quite good, even if it was overcast. Quite Please with bagging this one.

Pre-dawn raid on this one to avoid disappointment! Parked on grass verge a little E of Bozedown Farm. Up through field of alpaca, picking up farm track a little N of the farm. Continued on to large wood sheds then cut up through woodland, over a stock fence at the top and out onto rough pasture. Pillar found in good condition with just very minor chipping to one top edge; top cap replaced with what appears to be a cement plug; rear sight hole open. Extensive views S over Thames flood plain.

The building up the track from Bozedown Farm is not the farm house but a barn. Leave main track on a side track at SU642778. This curves to the left, up some steps and into the wood.

No reply. climbed the bank to the east to get over fence on to upper hillside, slightly left onto little valley and the right up the grassy hillside. Very beautiful start to the day.

I knew this would be a challenging trig as it's entirely on private land with no public footpath / right of way and no clear way of getting to it. Reading the logs on here didn't help much either! At first we went along the B471 to the war memorial (W of the trig), with the intention of parking at / near the war memorial. But there was absolutely no where to park at all. So eventually we ended up at Bozedown Farm on Hardwick Rd (SE of the trig). We parked on the grass verge on the S side of the road to the E of Bozedown Farm (point A on the attached satellite image). The alpaca farm (Bozedown Alpacas) was on the S side of the road, so no risk of running into any alpacas! There was a private road (in the NNW direction) with a black metal gate (point B) that led up to Bozedown Farm. Today being a Sunday, the farm was closed and the black metal gate was closed. So we walked up a grassy path immediately to the right of this private road, parrallel to the private road (point C), until we passed Bozedown Farm (the house). Once past the house, through a metal gate and the grassy path joins the private road (the private road from the black metal gate) (point D). We carried on walking up the private road, by this point it had turned into a gravel track, until we reached two wood sheds on the left (point E). The first wood shed was big and had all sorts in it, e.g. wooden fence posts, a red canoe hung on the wall, blue plastic chairs, trailers, etc. The second wood shed was much smaller and had wood in it. There was a dirt path in between the two wood sheds which led into the woods (in the SW direction). We basically went into the woods and climbed upwards (point F) until we reached the top. Out of the woods, onto the ridge, and there was the trig! Trig was in very good condition with concrete / asphalt centre plug. 10 out of 10 for the stunning views and the effort to get to this one!!! *** Revisit attempted 5 April 2015: we got to the wood sheds (point E) where we were challenged by an old woman working in the wood shed. We explained that we were trigpointing, and we asked for her permission to go visit the trig. "I DON'T ALLOW PEOPLE UP THERE!!!"

Ileft the bike by the B471 at the drive to a large house (The Skilts?). A convenient gate leads into a large pasture field, although passing in front of the house. One wire fence, a second grassy field, and two further gates near a phone mast, lead into a more ungrazed area but with a well worn path to the pillar. Sited on a spur with outlook toward reading and Theale.

I diverted from my Thames Path walk (Goring to Reading) to visit this trig. A rather difficult one to visit on private land, but nonetheless hopped over a wooden farm gate, and walked alongside some woodland in the shadows, opposite a huge country house. Soon entered the security of a large wood, but had to creep through brambles, bracken, fallen branches, and 'grabbing' fir trees. To a field, climbed upwards but pillar not there. However, close by, a large herd of alpaca - luckily able to avoid them, because trig was in the adjacent field, up another hill. As I approached the pillar, I could hear the sound of nearby gunfire, always a slightly unnerving sound, and hoped that 'they' wouldn't shoot an unarmed intruder. Pillar in good condition, with asphalt filling. Good view of the Thames and where I hoped to be in about half an hour. Beat a hasty retreat feeling very much the fugitive on the run.

Parked in layby and went up through brambles, no problems with access but we kept out of sight of buildings. Look for gap in upper hedge to the left then open ground to the trig. Brambles look impossible to get thro' otherwise but once you find this there is no problem.

There are guided nature walks each year at the beginning of May and they go via the trigpoint. Details can be found on a noticeboard by the farm entrance.

Access is a bit problematical as Birders point out. We parked on the B471 near the war memorial. There's a gate opposite which leads into the woodland though no obvious path. We crossed the wood until we got to the pasture then I followed hedgelines to the trig. It's possible to keep out of view of the large house for most of the time. Nice views over the Thames. Clustered bellflower growing near the pillar. Tarmac plug.

We visited the locality, but could find nowhere to access the land where the pillar is supposed to be. We stopped on the nearby road; GPS was saying about 140m to the pillar, which would have put it beyond the line of vegetation across a field. Despite searching with binoculars we could not find the pillar.
