Walked from Spital Railway Station west along A5137 then south west along the Old Clatterbridge Road, across the M53 along Thomas’s footpath to Thornton Hough on south side of the hospice and uphill along field boundary. At track, turned north west through gate. After about 250 metres came to junction of tracks meeting from south west and north west. Pillar shown on map just to north west of this point, however there’s was thick vegetation and trees to negotiate. Tried looking along a track through vegetation recently made by a vehicle but it veered away to the south. Went over to field boundary on north side of trees and started to lose a little height heading north east. Further from the path than expected. About to check for help and just spotted the pillar under trees up a small bank but surrounded by nettles and tall weeds. Careful step through to get to pillar. Rewarding find. Spider and cap in place. No views. View towards Liverpool from outside the trees.

Coming back to the FP were two couples dog walking; one woman then asked where I had been and what for, irate that trighunters were traipsing over farmland making it more difficult for walkers, and told me not to tell anyone how to find the trig. I said the info is on good old OS maps and long suffering husband chipped in saying it's on mobile phones too. Son said there's a fair few people on the Wirral who are up themselves: I met one of them.Caught a glimpse of L'pool's dark browny red Anglican cathedral on the way back. Happy Trighunting, folks!

Pillar in good order with all fixings. Those views that are open are of farmland and I was treated to a fine sunrise. Only one (Burton Reservoir) Wirral trig left but the owner has previously refused me permission to visit it - shame as I very much like this part of England.
