Pulled over on lane to east of pillar. Over stile headed uphill towards high ground although worn path headed more towards south west. After about two hundred metres pillar came into view. Herd of horned cattle in the field at the time, about a hundred metres away, close enough. Spider and cap in place. A bit muddy around base probably by cattle using pillar as a scratching post. Good views. Apart from Steep Holm think that completes all the pillars on OS182.

About 25 years ago I was into cycling not Trig Pointing and rode past this TP on a 3 day ride from Bath to Lands End, so on this break to the SW of England thought I'd bag some of those TPs I cycled past all those years ago. A pleasant TP with surprisingly limited views given its location. Field contains a lot of 'moo' with very big horns taking much interest in me & the dog. Got some great pictures of the dog, the cows and the TP, however fatal SIM Card failure meant I've lost them. Gutted.

Having become a bit disenchanted with all this - pretty much exhausted all my local TP's and can't be doing with Intersected Stations and drive by location ticks of trigs which are are known to have gone - I found myself in a different part of the country, with a new map, and my eyes inexorably drawn to the location of the nearby trigs. So a return to trigging after a years sabbatical. Straightforward climb up access land from North. TP stands well at summit of hill to S of stand of trees. Original spider. Hazy early morning views through 360 degrees; Hinkley Point power station, Quantocks, Blackdown Hills, Somerset Levels. Larks, chiffchaff, unidentified bird of prey, wild garlic in wood to W. This time I had great views of the Quantocks, however found TP surrounded by cattle with long viscious looking horns!!! Managed to negotiate with them and gain access but one member stayed close by giving me 'the evils' and breathing heavy or was it growling!!! Incorporated this visit into a walk taking in nearby Cothelstone Hill; a place devoid of triggage but compensated for by voluptuous views.

The pillar stands on a grassy hill top with the occasional gorse bush on the edge of the Quantocks above the village of Broomfield. It has a metal cap with shallow lettering and FB S3735; the foundations are exposed by up to 9 inches. I parked where the woodland tracks meet the minor road to the west of Westleigh Farm. The ascent initially took me through an area of noble old trees and then along a tree lined footpath before reaching the open grassland of the hilltop. The track I took for my return descended initially through open scrub of ferns and then woodland back to my car. The Quantocks can be seen rising to the west running northwards to the Bristol Channel; Hinckley Point Power Stations are on the coast to the north; in a distant haze Brean Down was further to the north and the Polden Hills were in the east.
