Parked in village of Hadstock. Walked north west on footpath gaining height and then over a footbridge to reach the Icknield Way Path on the border between Essex and Cambridgeshire. Footpath quite muddy and slippery so walked along the field edge, for part of the way, slightly higher ground to the west of the path. Path gains height and gets closer to the electricity lines. At the point where the path passes beneath the lines crossed through hedge near to pylon. Pillar visible about thirty meters west of the hedge. On the south side of a ditch. Good views to north. Spider and cap in place, chipped top on one corner.

Replenished by a pint and a chip butty at the pub in Hadstock, found TP via a very pleasant walk up the Icknield Way. TP through reasonably obvious gap in hedge just after f/p goes under line of pylons. Part covered by hawthorn scrub, on edge of ditch, original plug. Peaceful rolling arable countryside, fluffy white clouds, big sky, warm sun - a lovely English summer afternoon. Returned to Hadstock via Windpump Cottage/Pen Farm.

For this one, Angelika and I parked in Hadstock village, not far from the pub. More about that later. We followed the road south and eventually found the footpath which took us through Pen Farm to the pillar. One of the paths, which crossed a crop field had been ploughed over and not re-instated so we followed the tractor lines across as best we could. It was a warm, windless day and we were quite hot by the time we arrived. The pillar had been damaged slightly with a chunk of concrete missing from the top but all the metalwork was still in place. The pillar is in danger of being completely overgrown by the hawthorn bush that now obscures half of it. The views were very nice without being spectacular. We followed the Icknield Way back to make a pleasant circular walk of it. Unfortunately, that meant we had to walk back past the pub. The cold pint of cider was most welcome.

I have walked past this place once befre and did not manage to find the pillar - found it today, just over the hedge from the Icknield Way. It is slightly damaged, with some of the concrete on a top edge having been broken away. The trig point is surrounded by some sparse hawthorn bushes that made photography difficult.
