Had a rest day from the mountains but was determined to bag a trig so chose a circular walk from Peterchurch which went through rather muddy woodlands eventually reaching the track where the trig is located - not the most exciting but a trig's a trig lol.

Parked at side of entrance as it advises you to do and walked up track. Trig sits on right hand side of track, didn't see the log from about the bunker would have liked to have seen this! Should have read all the logs carefully. Spider, cap and FB all in place. Could only see 1SH open but growth around the base did hamper this a little.

The first of 4 trigs today. Out with CherryBubb. Easy access to this one. Park to one side at the start of the track at Stockley Hill by Bank House. There is a sign there saying parking is allowed as long as you leave plenty of room and don't block the way. A short 10 minute walk to the trig where there is a Geocache (GCQ0J7) and also an old R.O.C. bunker. The bunkers locks have been cut, so it is open. Apparently this is one of just 2 trigs in the county of Hereford (the other being Bleathwood) which are still in use and are part of the Ordnance Survey Passive Station Database.

Original cap has been retained; sight holes not checked. Extensive views to W although would have been better without the rain. Nuclear fallout monitoring bunker directly behind the pillar. Lifted the hatch but declined to climb down into it - on my own with no torch, a primal sense of self-preservation came over me!

Great view over Golden Valley. The trig is in front of an old underground Nuclear Monitoring Post. This was one of approx. 1500 built in the UK during cold war to monitor the effects of nuclear fallout. They were three person posts to be manned by the Royal Observer Corps complete with bunk beds, chemical toilet and the paraphernalia for monitoring fallout and communicating data to central command posts. The posts were abandoned in the 8os and the ROC disbanded in the 90s. For further info on NMPs go to http://www.subbrit.org.uk/category/nuclear-monitoring-posts

There is an anti-vandal plaque on it and quite alot of white paint. The original plug is still there and all view holes are closed. Found my first blackberries of the year in the hedge and acquired enough fresh peas from the surrounding fields that were hanging over the track to accompany the cottage pie I had for tea on arrival home!
