I locked my bicycle at the corner of Gibb Lane and then proceeded uphill on foot. I turned left onto Black Lane (Track), where the vicious sub zero easterly wind soon had me blinded with spindrift. In one place there was a five foot snow bank off to the side. This time last year it was shorts and t-shirt weather up in the Highlands! I climbed the gate into the next field and then stepped over the electric(?) fence to access the trig. Unsurprisingly, I didn't hang around the pillar for any length of time, before scurrying off down to Stockport train station, where a bleak, two hour long journey back home awaited.
