Entered field at footpath gate in southern corner of field at crossroads. Pillar clearly visible about 200 metres away. Field was rough and soggy pasture. Leaning quite badly. Did this occur when landowner deliberately try to remove it. If so, it’s a show of quality in the robust construction of these monuments. Looking back at previous posts this occurred between November 2010 and April 2011. View only of surrounding field.

Thought this one might give me trouble, as Google Streetview revealed some very cut back hedges since the previous log, making the field appear very visible from the properties across the road. As it turned out, it was no trouble at all - fieldside hedge was tall and dense. Pulled in opposite metal gate, and walked briskly over to pillar unseen and unchallenged. Not for the first time today, pillar appears in good condition if you look at it from an angle. No views or interesting features.

Grey and damp afternoon but exceptionally warm (16 deg!), with great late autumn colour in the beech and acers, and fab pink sorbus berries. Pillar in pasture so no access problems but I suspect there's been an attempt to move it (see DesG's photo). Hasn't got any worse however, NE s/hole open, metal cap shallow letters, rather dull surroundings with no views beyond field boundary, but otherwise vgc (apart from the tilt)!

I parked near the crossroads to the south-east and gained access to the field via the footpath. Very rough at the moment with remains of harvested crop and cattle hoof marks. The pillar itself is still in good condition. However I wonder whether it should now come into the toppled or moved category. It has certainly been 'leant' on and is well out of vertical and therefore has been 'moved'. It still retains an original metal indented lettered plug and has acquired a Monument/GPS Network plaque. The whole location looks rather sad and forlorn at the moment.
