Roadside parking on grass verge SW side road. Over field gate into silage filed / pasture. Pillar leaning badly but has not toppled so unsure why it's been described thus by previous 4 loggers; believe 'Damaged' is more descriptive as pillar could not be used for its intended purpose in current state. Several fractures to top screed; offset spider with original cap in place, indented lettering; LHD side sight hole open. 360deg limited farmland views.

FB Number: S1672  Condition: Toppled  Score: 5/10

Thought I had logged this years ago but not in my (now found) missing records, so a walk from the Rose and Crown at Upper Farringdon to rectify matters. Grey and damp afternoon but exceptionally warm (16 deg!), with great late autumn colour in the beech and acers, and fab pink sorbus berries. Pillar in pasture so no access problems but I suspect there's been an attempt to move it (see DesG's photo). Hasn't got any worse however, NE s/hole open, metal cap shallow letters, rather dull surroundings with no views beyond field boundary, but otherwise vgc (apart from the tilt)!

I parked near the crossroads to the south-east and gained access to the field via the footpath. Very rough at the moment with remains of harvested crop and cattle hoof marks. The pillar itself is still in good condition. However I wonder whether it should now come into the toppled or moved category. It has certainly been 'leant' on and is well out of vertical and therefore has been 'moved'. It still retains an original metal indented lettered plug and has acquired a Monument/GPS Network plaque. The whole location looks rather sad and forlorn at the moment.

An easy one. Parked on the grass verge opposite and walked through the gate into the field. The pillar is only a few yards in to the field which at this time was growing grass, presumably to be cut for hay later in the year. The pillar is in good condition with all it’s metalwork in place. The centre plug is of the shallow indented type. Views are of pasture and field boundary hedges… not very interesting.
