Looked like quite a long walk from car park to north so drove down the hill to the west then managed to find a place to pull over on the narrow lane to the south west of the hill about fifty meters from the foot path uphill. Probably able to squeeze onto the side of the road by the footpath. Fairly steep climb, came out at top near to tree line to west, there was higher ground on that side of the common but map indicated pillar was to the east. Lost a bit of height going in that direction and reached the pillar from the north west, hidden on the approach. Fabulous views out to sea and over towards south Devon. Lucky it was a clear day. Defaced FB sadly.

Parked in car park at end of East Hill strip. Easy comfortable walk along East Devon Way then off slightly to the trig.

Climbed up from the carpark at Harpford Woods with Josh and Molly on a glorious sunny day. Great views from the top looking towards Sidmouth and the sea and Buckton Hill.

Pillar sited on marshy track across a hill summit. Excellent view from pillar; better one from the seats at the edge of the hill.

An easily accessible pillar, albeit within an electrified stock fence, Approaching from East Hill, the route through the forest along East Hill Strips and the East Devon Way was an absolute delight and i must return to run the route some time soon.

Great views across East Devon, what a great place for a trig point. We walked along the ridge with friends and their children. The small people climbed on the trig and the big kid had to follow suit!

Lovely views over Sidmouth and the rolling hills of East Devon’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Easy to find the pillar. Rob H Nice and dry underfoot after plenty of warm sunshine.

A wet sunday morning in Devon visiting in-laws prompted me to visit a few local pillars before the house got moving. From lay by just west of B3176 Sidmouth turning, then lanes, bridleway and steep climb to flat topped Beacon Hill. Gloom and rain spoiled an otherwise good view.

I work at a near by supermarket so ran this on my way home. from .83 on the road. You can drive up Core hill road and park in the small car park. Not on the map. It's then a short up hill walk. Surounding area very wet and muddy. My house can just be seen from the info board 100 or so metres from the Trig. This is my nearest trig. Nearest pubs are The Bowd or the Blue Ball. both on the A3052. Re: Widget's log entry you can avoid the hill climb on a bike by cycling up the old railway line. One of the 4 Trigs race points.

Wandered around Beacon Hill but couldn't find the pillar. Some areas of gorse had been flattened and I took some 'paths' through the thick gorse, but was unsuccessful

Views from here over the Sidmouth area and the sea are breathtaking. The trig is in the middle of a large area of gorse and I got scratched bigtime getting to it. It's in good condition with only the plug missing and been filled with concrete

Bitch of a hill to climb on a bike out of Newton Poppleford. Superb views from gorse moor. Life is great!
