A physically very demanding visit! I walked up from Heyshaw along the Nidderdale Way through snow that was knee-deep for the whole way - and in places even deeper. I was grateful to reach the road and return by it rather than suffer more hardship fighting the snow on the footpaths. The snow was so pristine white that it made the pillar look a dirty shade of grey! Perhaps I shall have to return with the paint brush in the better weather.

I regard this as my 'local' trig point and decided on my last visit that it needed some 'refurbishment' ie a coat of paint to make it stand out. Today therefore I visited it together with a brush and some white paint. It was a fabulous day for painting, hot and sunny with a drying breeze and even though there were rumbles of thunder in the far distance I reckoned the paint would be well dry before the rains came. In fact the first side was dry by the time I started on the fourth side. It certainly looks better for it and is now visible from a couple of miles away where before it merged into the surrounding rock outcrops.
