re-visit. Over gate in corner by wood, trampled a patch of nettles, then easy walk around perimeter of field. The pillar is hidden by weeds and merging into hedgerow. I'm sure on my first visit the roadside hedge was much lower and the pillar was easily visible from the road.

Parked in convenient gateway opposite Shaft Lane and followed footpath through the woods and across two fields. The pillar is located in hedge and needed a bit of pruning. There might be a shorter way from the road but do not know what parking would be like.

Well done to Alancache as I couldn't find the cache in the dense undergrowth and got scratched to pieces from the brambles that weaved through the high ferns! Once close to trig it was easy to spot. First trig I've seen painted green, strange not sure if they want it to blend into the hedge? The hedge is taking over anyway and sure the trig will be lost one day. Had to dig out the bottom of the flush bracket to reveal the number.

The previous pictures are worth a thosand GPS fixes... from the two photos along the hedgeline, and comments about the encroaching farm - this little fellow seems to have moved SW by about 15metres. Cap intact with all sights below ground level - nettles kinda off-putting to gloveless digging, the slight bite is out of the SE corner (though pillar might have been re-oriented?) Pinkish hue under lichen cover.. entry under the barbs, egress thro farmgate. Crops about 4inches just now.

A dnf as sadly had not discovered this database in 2004. Spent some time hunting up and down the hedge but didn't want to trespass too close to the farm. Very nice walk from Meriden on a sunny evening. Meriden claims to be the centre of England (it has a monument to this effect); as this is the closest trig to Meriden I conclude it must be the most central one in England?
