I had an evening walk up from Millgate. A longer route up with better scenery avoiding the tracks, a more direct descent. Very boggy on the approach to the top. A pleasant spot at the trig.

Easy parking on Eagley Bank just off the main road. Easy access to hilltop via footpaths from there. Would have scored more than a 6 but it was chucking it down when we were near the top. Kept our feet dry though.

I approached from the NW having parked up on Todmorden Rd near Sharneyford Primary School. Some of the footpaths I used had clearly not been used for a long time. Broken stiles, and on some of them, obstructions by landowners. The trig is at a beautiful setting next to a small pond. From here I headed North to Limers Gate back to the A681 on my way to Thieveley Pike.

Parked at gordon riggs Garden centre. Weather had been hot and relatively dry for the last week, but there was still some very boggy areas. Be careful of cows in the field with calves, they didn't seem to appreciate my presence so I gave them a wide birth.Trigs in good nick and has great 360° views of the pennines.

Turnslack fell race (12.9 km 610m) start/finish at the church in Calderbrook. A KS special where prizes run from bog rolls, a tow rope, half dozen eggs, bicycle saddle, or my prize was a paddling pool. Clockwise visiting Ringing Pots, Flight, Hades, Trough Edge End (location of the trig), Ramsden, Noon, Allendale and Cuckoo Hills. Much easier ways to get to this trig available. Parkruns are blessed this pillar. They are back up and running after a 16 month absence. A brilliant concept, community and accessible to everyone.

Parked just past the cattle-grid on Foul Clough rd followed fp up Burnt hills and wall to the trig which sits in a dreary moorland next to a pond, the trig is in good condition with a tar cap all sight holes are open and the flush bracket faces 28, no views due to the murky conditions returned via track past the drained Ramsden clough resr

HISTORY: Pillar completed 24th March 1948 costing £19.10s.3d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SE02/6 within the Rochdale block during 1948. Levelled for height in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in October 1980. SITE VISIT: Approached from east having driven up the steep narrow Inchfield Road and onto Foul Clough Road. Parked at SD925219 where metalled road ends, north side just before cattle grid. Continued on foot along the mapped track passing Ditches then up Freeholds Top to summit. Pillar beside man made pond. Column in good condition. Cleaned up FB to make it more readable. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces northeast, ~29°. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. Full 360° open outlook. Returned due east via the direct route.

Visible and easily accessible. Quite a trudge up from Warland and Coolam on the Todmorden Boundary Marathon Walk. Weather for August appalling, haevy drizzle, low cloud and deep thick mud underfoot - roll on winter. Trig in good condition has been painted white a while ago with concrete plug. Knowing the location the views of extensive moorland are good - but not today.

Pouring down, wet through to my underwear. Trig with stone plug by small pool, otherwise an undistinguished area. But others have seen it under better conditions, so I may be being too harsh. Public

One of my favourite trigs. Good views. Steep climb up from Tod onto these tops. Ok, it can be boggy but who's complaining. The pond by the trig is a superb spot. Only 2 miles from civilization.

Found while searching for the geocache Bobz on Freeholds Tops. The trig was covered in flies and then I was covered in flies! Nice Location however.

Nice spot next to a little pond although today it was mostly ice. Visited several times before as a checkpoint on the Todmorden Boundary Hike and Calderdale Hike among others.

Good views possible on a good day but views spoilt by pylons. At the moment the area is very wet the walk to it involved 2 miles of bog hopping. Again the area is being cut up by the illegal use of motorbikes by very offensive people who seem to take great delight in tearing across the moor when it is in its most fragile state.

Breezy day. Trig located on the edge of a small tarn; all four sighting holes open; concrete-filled plug. Pylons, wind farms and reservoirs; better views down Calderdale
