Parked at Wolsingham station and did a 7 mile loop, half of it along the Weardale Way. Very pleasant couple of hours with extensive views from the top

Great views from here. Parked up at road side to SW, where some other dog-walker cars were parked - and ran along the track, and then bore right up through the heather to the trig, then down to the road, and along back to the car. Final one of 3 for today.

Roadside parking next to track alongside plantation then an easy short circular walk - a small bit of heather bashing. Great views to Wolsingham and far beyond along Weardale.

Nothing new to add - couple of minutes walk along private road to SE of pillar then couple of minutes up through the heather. Decent 360 degree views.

Nice easy bag, short distance from the road. Good views of Weardale all round, but very exposed to N wind. Missing centre plug but otherwise good condition.

Parked on track adjacent to pillar and found a path through the heather to the pillar. Pillar in great condition, no cap/plug and has a water bottle jammed in it, one sight hole open. Excellent views from pillar on a fine day.

Bishop Auckland to Ilkley Walk Day 1 of 12. First ever visit to Weardale, what a wonderful untouristy place this is. Mostly following Weardale Way from BA to Holebeck House camp near Wolsingham. Emerged from Black Bank Plantation to see a path leading up to trig. Easy access on open moorland. Trig in good condition, plug missing, green tinge to FB. Wonderful views of lower Weardale.

Weather was a bit overcast but it was nice & fresh. Parked just off Howlea Lane, walked up bridle path past heather then over to trig. Nice views towards Wolsingham. Showed Westy Trig his first Pillar.

Approached from SE. Drove along rough track from NZ092347 to nearest point where there is a turning circle. Direct route via mapped RoW. Grassy grazing moor. Pillar completed 18th September 1947 costing £5.16s.6d, still in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces 192° SSW. Vented through SW sight hole. 270° open outlook, parts of southern aspect blocked by trees ~200m away.

Highly visible and easily accessible. I used a track from the nearby road and then cut up to the pillar on a well walked trod. Everything in good order with the pillar except for a missing plug. Some reallt lovely all round views from this elevated vantage point.
