About a mile north of Shaftesbury on A350. Was keeping an eye out for the mast but it was not quite daylight and a bit misty so spotted it too late to find somewhere to pull in. Went down the hill, turned around and came back up. Pulled in to water works slip road. Walked back north along verge, although had to walk in road some of the time as very steep embankment to east. Lost a little height to get to a track/ footpath heading east. Pillar visible from this point on top of the embankment. Bit of scramble up through brambles and over a wonky barbed wire fence. No views, apart from the road. Quite a busy road even at an early hour.

Previous logs suggest issues with access along the A350. Parked at "Jims Place" in the side road to the south. There is a bridleway that leads to a gate below the trig. The bridleway starts in what looks like someone property but access is allowed. Tip: keep to the left of the dog kennel! The path has been cleared with some help from me. The climb up was steep but there is a pull over by the gate so ascended from there. Trig has the cap missing but otherwise ok.

This one's in the running for my least favourite pillar. The trees on the roadside embankment have been chopped down, which made me fear for the trig itself, but no - it's still up there, more visible than ever, seemingly taunting me from its apparently inaccessible position. There was no way I was going to scramble up the near-vertical embankment, so I sought another way in - over the gate at the foot of the pillar, past the temporary building, over another gate to the right, straight across to the (barbed wire covered) stile into the reservoir compound, then circle back round to the right to a path which doesn't quite lead all the way to the pillar. And from there it's a hack through some very dense foliage and up a steep and crumbling earthy slope to find an unattractive ivy-covered pillar that's a lot less exposed than the roadside view (or the previous logs here) would have you believe. And then I realised I'd left my phone charging in my car, so I had to go back and retrieve it and do it all again. No no entry signs present, and no people either, but I very much felt that I shouldn't have been there. Only positive is that my chosen route involved no barbed wire fences (other than the easily negotiated stile).

Parked in layby and walked into reservoir compound, all gates were open and there were no signs to tell us it was private, carried on past reservoir and mast then into the corner of field as far as you can go, then went left and climbed up hump into trees with trig, found easily if you know where to look. As we walked back to the layby we noticed there was a van with someone in (we had not seen him on our way in) he never got out and acknowledged are existence. Easy.

Arrived on a circular walk by taking A350 from Shaftesbury. No footpath after Business Park, so care needed. As other recent visitors have noted, access is easy - and clean - by climbing over gate into waterworks land and walking as far as possible into the left hand corner, where TP stands on a bank. Tried to leave via the A350 and the bridle path north of the TP shown on 1:25,000 OS map. This seems now to be only a track for access to mast. In August, grass and nettles are head-high and no path is visible. I later checked the far end of the path, where it meets the minor road to Donhead St Mary. Seems to be a gated compound with a portakabin (possible someone's home?). It doesn't seem they want you to go that way, so I'd advise sticking to the roads.

Pruned back some new tree growth from around it. A number of hair fractures are appearing in the pillar which may necessitate a down-grading in time; rear sight hole is open, others sealed; cap is missing, no plug. I didn't note any views.

I climbed over a lot of fences (ouch) and gates and still couldn't spot the trig in the NW corner of the mast compound. As other loggers have noted, this is in a pants location.
